As far as I can tell, I have not been warned when discussing Cesario by name and reference (in that very thread) without being insulting or hostile, so my assumption is the rule is “don’t attack him where he can’t defend himself”, not “don’t talk about him”.
That won’t help. We’re also in the top 10 for the word “kiddiefucker” (HA! Giraffeboard rates higher!), so nice one all those people who kept writing about kiddiefucking. You did a terrific job!
This vaunted “rule” concerning Cesario is bullshit. He turned around and started a thread in GD about the “rights” of children in criminal cases, and ages of responsibility. His interest in the subject is not separable from his interest children for less wholesome pursuits. Pedophiles will often hype up children’s rights in other areas on order to legitimize their interest in them sexually.
However, addressing this in that thread isn’t possible because of this rule - and requests by me to have this addressed by moderators haven’t been answered.
It seems to me that as long as he’s not talking about specific sexual interest, it’s still possible to have a halfway decent discussion on children’s rights with regard to age regardless of the fact he started it.
But that’s just it - the fact that he started it is the problem. He has an interest in the subject far broader than the specific one mentioned - and most of us would consider this a sinister interest.
Therefore most of us would want to call out Cesario here, at the very least to ensure that his advocacy isn’t in service of his larger cause. But because of these absurd rules we cannot do so.
Frankly, I don’t believe he should have been permitted to start that thread - or having done so that thread should have been closed. This is way too close to a topic he was warned away from.
Why post in that thread at all? Why don’t we all just ignore him? He can post and sart threads all he wants. When no one replies to him he will fade away.
In an ideal world he would have been banned in september for obvious reasons forum rules forbid me from mentioning. But he wasn’t so the best thing to do is just to stop paying attention to him. Don’t reply to his posts or his threads.
I didn’t reply there - but that isn’t a great solution, is it? The thread is there and others are replying. You and I can’t control what everyone does.
I am making a noise because this situation is completely untenable. I believe the board administration will be forced eventually to ban Cesario or worse. The issue now is how much damage will be done in the interim.
It isn’t a great solution. The best solution would be for him to be banned. Sadly I think he slipped under the mods radar at first and now the mods are reluctant to ban him out of simple inertia.
The only thing we can do is ignore him. It’s not ideal, obviously some people won’t, but it’s the best we non-mods can do.
This bothers me as well. I personally don’t think he should be posting about anything related to children, at all. In normal circumstances, I’d start a Pit thread (or continue my last one) to take him to task for it, but I’m fairly sure that’s not kosher under the new rule. So the net effect of the new rule is that it’s actually shielding him from criticism on issues which are related to, but not, pedophilia. It’s kind of frustrating.
But that’s not the ruling Ed made.

If you truly believe the thread Cesario started is vile the best way to deal with it is not to read it or reply to it.
With all due respect - no, that is not the best way to deal with it.
Some posters are only here to hit our hot buttons as hard as they can.
It seems we are not supposed to encourage posters who are merely being jerks for the sake of attracting attention to themselves and/or collecting fapping material. I understand the motivation, but it seems like a waste of bandwidth to let them post. Just ban them and be done with it.
Plus the inherent absudities of a board that allows posters to say that they want to fuck babies (as long as they don’t say it too much), but not to respond to those posters by saying “Fuck you” because that would be too coarse.

Shodan
I’m aware that’s the situation as it currently stands, and I don’t fault the mods for enforcing it. But I think it’s unfortunate.

Hang on, I thought the rule said that we could not pit Cesario on matters relating to his pedophilia? On all other topics he should be fair game. And as the mods have deemed his thread unrelated then a pitting should be within the rules. (Carefully worded, of course.)
Or are they saying that Cesario is unpittable for anything now?
No, I don’t think they’re saying that he’s unPittable for anything – if he says something stupid about global warming, we can Pit him just like we would anyone else. It’s the tangential issues where it gets tricky – the reason I would Pit him for that thread is precisely due to the topics he’s not allowed to discuss. I don’t have a problem with the topic itself – had anyone else started that thread I wouldn’t have blinked.
Word.
Both turn on the same thing – at what age does a person have capacity to make a decision on an adult level.
Either Cesario should be restricted from posting about children and from posting about sex, or he should be tossed.
Read Ed’s warning again - he’s stating that we can’t post anything about Cesario that he can’t respond to, or that we can’t goad him into a pedophilia discussion. That would be somewhat workable if he wasn’t turning around and starting threads about kids’ rights.
I have responded to this - I have reported the thread in question to moderators and I have brought it up here. I did not goad Cesario into anything (and I won’t) but keeping quiet about this whole mess and hoping it goes away is not a workable option.
Yeah. How is “At what age should kids be considered adults < cough > um…purely for purposes of criminal charges, of course…< winky-winky >?” allowable under Ed’s ruling? He’s still talking about kids and where legal adulthood is.
I am tired of hearing that from you concerning Cesario.
The proof of your error is that ignoring Cesario did nothing. Expressing our revulsion led to the present restriction against Cesario.
In any event, here is yet another Cesario pitting: http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?p=12120726#post12120726
I would expect the moderators (and people who are concerned and know where the “report post” button is) will be watching that thread like hawks. At least in the former case they should be.
