…in this case I agree with them shutting down threads that are racist or xenophobic or advocate indiscriminate violence. They’re doing their part to calm the situation.
Talk like that has consequences. I’ve heard rumors of riots in Detroit and taxi drivers getting beaten up in New York and Arab-owned stores getting trashed in New Jersey. Haven’t been able to confirm it, because it’s probably been swallowed up by the big news of the day. Can anybody confirm?
That’s one of the saddest aspects of a tragedy. People you once thought of as rational sane people say irrational insane things and, perhaps, show their true colors. Emotions run high and logic is out. Around here (Kansas City) there are Islam/Muslim organazations getting backlash. Incredibly racist messages on their answering machines. It’s sick.
I was upset this morning when I first heard about this tragedy. Now I’m at the point where I am holding a lot of people in contempt for their actions towards people who have nothing at all to do with this tragedy.
As bad as this is, reading the “kill the Arabs” & similar messages are enough to gag a maggot. I’m usually on the Yahoo stocks message boards and the crap there today is an embarrassment to our species. I want the bastards who did this to pay for it and, more importantly, stop doing it. I’ll settle for the latter.
I just heard CNN say that the NY City Police Dept has confirmed that 78 police officers are missing.
yeah, i think most of all the posts today are going to have to be discounted a little bit. i think emotions are running a little high. i hope some of the stuff i have been reading is just the pain talking and not how folks really think.
I live in NY and I haven’t heard of any taxi drivers being beat up. People have been concerned with the dead, missing loved ones and getting home.
There’s not much crazy talk in my neighborhood just complete, total and utter disbelief. There has been no looting. There has been no rioting.
Maybe after the stunning numbness wears off and the dead start coming out of lower Manhattan there will be some angry outbursts. But now there’s just waiting.
