I feel like a rat!!!

Have any of you ever seen one of those police sketches and you thoght you knew who the person was? Did you turn them in? I just did that this morning, and I feel rotten. I’m really hoping to find out I’m wrong, but I really didn’t like thinking about the possibilities if I’m right, and I did nothing. So I feel like I did the right thing even tough I feel terrible about it.

Can anyone else describe a similar situation? Sort of share the anguish.

No stories here, but you shouldn’t feel such a rat, I think.
There are always stories about the kindly old quiet neighbor who turns out to be a child molester or something.

If you’re comfortable telling, how well do you know this person?

Don’t think it of finking on someone.
Think of it as helping the victim.

If this person is innocent, then it should come out.
If not, you just helped someone and bad guy/gal get what they deserve.

Around campus here, there have been lots of rapes and such and composites are all over.
If I thought for a second I knew the person……well I’d kill him, but then I’d still turn both of us in.
Good luck

Why would you feel like a rat? I haven’t personally turned anyone in…but a few weeks ago, a woman was raped in my quiet, (nice area of town) work building, in the middle of the day. She was able to create a sketch of him, and we’re all looking sideways at strangers now.

I suppose at this point, you have to have faith that the police will be able to determine the culprit.

Nope. I quit an employer on the second day and had no qualms about shopping them for various matters.

I guess it’s because I don’t know it is in fact him. I mean if it was a photo or something showing the guy in the act, it wouldn’t bother me even for a moment. In this case the guy just looks like the guy, along with some ofther things I’d rather not bring up just yet.

harmless He’s somby I worked with for a few years.

The police need leads. That is what you have provided. It is your duty as an honorable citizen. You have not fingered this person as being the culprit. Bless you for taking the time and going to the trouble.

I had to report someone once as possibly being the Unibomber. I was disappointed when it wasn’t he. The scum. It was a far-flung possibility, but the FBI was desperate for leads and this particular guy made sense and looked like the sketches. He was quickly disqualified.

Someone else in my neighborhood turned in the cook at a favorite local restaurant to Unsolved Mysteries. Damn! Right on the money!

You do what you can to help.

You’re not accusing this person of anything – the cops want to know, do you know anyone who looks like this? If the answer is “yes,” you did the right thing to tell the cops about this person. They will investigate and find out whether it’s the right person or not.

Thanks for the support guys, I feel a lot better about it today.
