I feel like a real doper now!

I just received this e-mail today, and realised it looked awful familiar. And having seen many a thread on here about sending Snopes articles to the senders of such e-mails, I felt compelled to do the same.

I’ve finally contributed to the fight against ignorance!

Feels kind of good fighting the good fight against ignorance, doesn’t it?

So, were your respondees in the 1% category (“Hey, thanks for pointing that out to me! Now I know the truth and can show others the same.”) or the 99% category (“Why are you such a jerk?!?”)?

Or the equally popular "Don’t you ever do any work? How do you have time to look up all this stuff???

Grim

There is of course, sometimes denial.

“That must be a different one. The e-mail I sent is legit!”

Actually, it was just a link (hey, I’m working on it!) sinced I figured the link said it all. But if I had wrote something, which I probably will next time, it would have been in the 1%, something like “That e-mail you sent me appeared on Snopes a while ago, and here’s what they had to say”.

And yes, it does feel good. I’m so proud of myself.

 I did the same a few months ago. Somebody sent me a list of “Strange but true facts”, including that a duck’s quack doesn’t echo, and about twenty others. I rebutted the first eight or so (with links to Straightdope and Snopes) and hit “Reply All”.

I didn’t hear back form anyone but the guy who sent it; he didn’t seem pleased, but hasn’t sent me anymore of them. I wasn’t sure, at first whether it had been a good idea, but nobody was hurt, and ignorance was fought…

wolfstu somebody actually quit sending you glurge and spam? You lucky devil you!

Jayn_Newell good for you! I got that very same email last week from a co-worker (I have dubbed her the glurge/spam Queen of Southwest GA). Once again I sent a reply with a link to Snopes with my usual line: “Snopes is our friend, please stop sending out this stuff.” Well that and a reminder that anymore wastes of company resources such as this may (read damn will!) result in disciplinary action. We’ll see.

My poor mom used to send me stuff like that, and I would go research it for her to tell her why it wasn’t true. I would also send her the links to where I would get my information.

I no longer get email from her like this… she has taken up the good fight herself. I’m so proud! I raised her right.

I’ve been doing that for a few years now… I can’t say that I’ve enlightened anyone, but no one sends me these types of emails anymore and that is enough for me.

Yerg, I got the darn thing yesterday…from the CEO’s assistant!! I just sent her the Snopes link. Thanks, Jayn_Newell

It took me some time, but I’ve trained the people at work to run these things through me first.

And not two weeks ago my boss went to Snopes all by herself and discovered something was false!

I’m so proud. sniff they grow up so quickly though…
