Thankfully, being retired, it has not been a big deal thus far. So least concern category.
I’m waiting for some sort of advance ear surgery so I won’t need a hearing aid. My hearing is not good if any other noise to speak of. Thus far nothing much there. I’m trying to encourage my wife to get her eyes done, the advances there are amazing. My in-laws have 20-25 vision in there 80s now thanks to the latest surgeries.
I also have to resume weight loss, the last month has caused a weight gain, Holidays and some stress eating tied to this PSA scare.
Glad to hear things are looking good for you! I’m a prostate cancer survivor of six years. I had no choice but to have the surgery. It came very close to metastasizing. I’m lucky to be here! Your doctor will want to regularly monitor your PSA level. I have a blood test every six months. My PSA will go up or down slightly but sticks pretty close to zero. So far, so good.
Too many men die from this, so now that it’s on your radar, don’t ignore any symptoms or changes. The biopsies are unpleasant - I had two of them - but if your doctor says to have one, grit your teeth and do it.
Nothing you have experienced in life prepares you for your doctor telling you that you have cancer. My wish is that by being aware and taking precautions, you will never have to hear that.
I hope you mean that you have hearing aids but don’t much like using them. As opposed to refusing to buy or use them and hence suffering unnecessarily with really shitty hearing.
I’ve been wearing my aids for 6 years now’; they started as my 60th birthday present to me. I can get by without them, but it’s far short of the experience with them. Are they anywhere near as good as spectacles, contacts, or cataract surgery at correcting the age-related deterioration of old ears vs old eyes? Not even close. But they are still a huge improver.
The bigger problem is that bad ears change your brain. Living with bad ears mucks up the audio interpretation system in your brain. Once that’s mucked up, miraculously restored ears would still hit a roadblock in your now dysfunctional brain and you’d still hear for shit.
If you want to “wait” for miracle ear-improvers. use your hearing aids meanwhile to keep the hearing part of your brain alive & well. Or at least as alive and well as is possible.
