After a long dry spell… well since October really… I have a job interview and it is for a job I actually want. Well, after submitting over 50 applications, the statistics had to be good for getting an interview. I am filled with joy… things may actually start to work out after all* and I won’t have to look into selling a kidney on the black market to pay my bills.
*My sister in law found a job after being unemployed for 6 months, my best friend is moving here from Chicago to start a new job and now I might actually get a job after being unemployed for nearly 6 months.
I have been going back and forth with e-mail to a job prospect. I think I might get an interview out of them, but it’s hard to say. Some places are just so persnickety about their requirements, it tends to piss me off, but I need to control my emotions.
Well, I just got back from my interview. It was nearly an hour and a half, longer than any other I had been on before. The funny thing was, I was so relaxed, the answers just came to me and I feel like I had a really good response from the people interviewing me. I am usually a bundle of raw nerves during interviews.
They also asked me “when we extend a job offer, how soon would you be able to start” I have never had that asked in an interview… it sounds so darn promising. They said I would be hearing back from them in a few days.
Second that “What will you be doing” question…is your user name a hint as to your fame as a geologist?
Two things: (from personal experience)

[li]Do NOT get all freaked out if they don’t call in 1 day. It’s really easy for me to say, because I’ve done it every time.[/li][li]Don’t stop looking in the meantime. Just because you have one good lead doesn’t mean you shoudl stop pounding the pavement.[/li][/ul]
The job is for a staff scientist/geologist position at an environmental consulting firm. A friend of mine worked for this company at this office. She recently moved to Arizona and just transferred to another office with the same company. So it is a great company to work for.
I have no intention of giving up looking for work until I get and accept a job offer. Over the last 6 months (well October basically, havent had an interview since then) I have dealt with a few interviews that seemed good, but I didn’t get the job, but I didn’t do well in the interview and I knew it (you know, interviewers are like dogs- they can smell fear & desparation ) The rest of the time, I never heard anything back, even after calling to confirm that they received my resume and stuff.
Anyway, I don’t expect to hear anything until at least next week at the earliest. I am keeping my fingers crossed and hopefully this will happen for me whoo hooo!!!
