We recently moved and the antennae was broken off of my daughters computer, so we replaced the card. I forgot my wireless network password. She’s able to see the connection but not able to get onto the internet without the password.
Is the password stored somewhere on either my computer or hers in some obscure place that I’m unaware of? Or do you have any other suggestions? There are two other computers on this home network as well.
On the router there is a “reset” button" somewhere. Use this button and the wireless router will reset to the factory passwords which are specific to the router. You will have to re-set the security passwords to make sure you are protected. The manuf website should have the setup inst. manual for the unit if you are missing the setup procedures.
You may not need to reset the router; if you have a wired connection to it and have the admin login details noted somewhere (or in your memory), then you you might be able to get the password from there; some router configuration utilities show the WPA passphrase in an unmasked edit box. it’s worth a try.
Well, I reset my router … linksys stayed on the phone over an hour with me and successfully got my computer and one other back online. I proceeded with just enough knowledge to be dangerous, but linksys customer service was very patient - kudos!
Turns out there is a problem with the recently installed wireless card on AdoptaDaughters computer and I’ll have to return it, so even if I’d remembered my password she wouldn’t have been able to connect, so back to the puter shop we go! Thank goodness I still have my receipt!
