I found my first gray hair.

My first silver hair appeared when I was 19, and one of my co-workers pointed it out rather apologetically. Since grad school, I’ve gained a bunch more, mostly on the top of my head.

I kinda like gray hair, and especially the salt-and-pepper look. My boyfriend bemoans his graying hair, but I think it looks great on him (yes, even in his beard). And I think I will let just nature takes its course on my own scalp, too.

when i was getting my hair cut, at age 20 the stylist found one.
i have not found any more, but that does not mean that they are not there

My first grays showed themselves in my early teens, 13 or 14. I’m 27 now. My mother and her father were both gray both the age of 35, so that’s what I have to look forward to. I already have a nice assortment of grays around my temples. I haven’t really seen them spreading around to the rest of my head yet, but I know they’re plotting . . .

First gray AND first realization of male pattern baldness at the same age - 22.

When it rains, it pours, I guess.

I was 38 when my daughter noticed that I had a white/gray hair and then proceeded to yank it out. Of course I also have blondish hair so I could have had some gray/white hair come in earlier and not notices. To my consternation though, the gray/white hair is coming in either coarser and wavy or fine and way…the rest of my hair is straight as a ruler. It’s like they mutated or something.

My husband on the other hand has had graying hair since he was 16. When I met him at 22, he was already starting to gray at the temples. Now at 46, he’s got gray hair with a few black ones thrown in for emphasis.

I’m looking forward to the day my daughter gets her first gray hair so that I can YANK it out.

Drain, you aren’t old.

Got you all beat. 6 yrs old. Almost 34 and almost all silver. The wife likes it. The hair doesn’t bother me,
but the damn gray eyebrows do. And I pluck my 1 ear hair
everytime it pops out.

PS. I firmly beleive that if you pluck 'em, two grow back!!!

Oh please. One white hair (particularly if it’s truely white) is just one misfired RNA message. It’s just one random anomality that can happen at any age. It necessarily doesn’t mean you’re going to get any more.

Of course if you do…well, you’re old and you’re life is pretty much over.

I got my first grey hair at 22. Thought nothing of it because I had a long, luxurious mane. But it was a harbinger of doom. My forehead area increased every year since to the point where, this year, I got a buzz cut. So short that scissors are useless against me.

Now, it’s the gray hair on my chest that worries me.

Probably around your age. I’m 32 now, and have LOADS of white hairs, especially around my temples. Doesn’t bother me. I keep fit and look young, so it’s obviously premature. I think it looks kinda cool, actually, in a Cruella DeVil sort of way.

Stompy

My first grey/silver hair showed up at 19. I’m now 41 and I’ve got a fair smattering of them now. shrug Who cares, I think it looks cool. Especially in the beard, along both sides of the chin.

I know one guy, who’s been going bald since about 15…he’s now 20 or 21 and wears his hair closely trimmed. Looks sexy on him. grrrrrrrowl

None yet for me…although I dye my hair so much already, I won’t know until my whole head goes gray.

  1. It was just a few weeks after I got married and, amused, I called my new wife in to see it. She took one look, plucked it (violently), and told me I was not going to blame her for my gray hair.

The rest of my follicles were terrified into staying brown until after we’d gotten the kids. (I’ve got maybe a dozen scattered around my head.)

I found about one grey hair a year from the time I was sixteen or so…then when I hit 26 they started popping up all over. I used to yank them out, then I did the math: Eventually they’ll all be grey. If I pull out all the grey ones, I’ll run out of hair some day. So I live with it. I have a single, solitary grey whisker on my chin, in the middle of my (mostly) black beard.

Other than that, I’ve been disappointed to discover that the very peak of my skull is shedding its hair as my hairline migrates back to see what’s going on. Oh well. I have way too much self-respect to do a toup or a comb-over when my scalp finally surfaces to say hi and drink in the sun(burn). I guess if it’s good enough for Patrick Stewart, it’s good enough for me.

First noticed them at about 25. My friend’s 2 daughters were playing “beauty shop” w/ me as their client, when all of a sudden they excitedly shout, “Gaaahhhllleee, LOOK at ALL the gray hairs!!!”

I had highlights at the time and thought (hoped, prayed) the girls were mistaken, but upon close inspection, I was forced to admit that the grays had been sneaking in all over my head while I wasn’t looking–probably had been going on for a year or two.

Sorry, Drain, it’s all downhill from here.
