I fucking hate AT&T.....Classaction anyone?

Their service in my area is shit…in fact. their service in most areas is probably shit as well…

and all of their commercials claiming how fast they are, how they cover 97% of americans What the fuck does that even mean?

fucking idiots…

Really, is there anyway we can file a class action lawsuit or something against them and their bullshit claims?

I drop calls EVERY DAY…thank god, i havent actually lost any deals because of a dropped call…but when that day comes…I’m going to implode!!!

Are you positive that service isn’t just as bad for other carriers in your location?

Marketing guys like me write those statements because they are full of ambiguity, and we can’t be held hostage to them. As Dilbert puts it, “those guys even believe market research!” I am sure that someone at ATT has a document showing that 97% of American cell phone users are within range of an ATT tower once per day.

Drops, etc. suck. ATT loves me so much, they gave me one of their microcell repeaters for my house. It plugs into my internet line and gives me perfect connectivity when at home (where I have most problems).

ive heard from numerous people that Verizons service is substantially bettter…

Being on the road as much as I am, if I pay for a service, I should get that service and it should be reliable. I think all of their commercials and adverts are deceiving

I had AT&T with my iPhone. And it was reliably bad. I knew exactly where on a map I would lose my call. And not when I was out in the country but in the city. There were two main roads I would drive and I would always warn the person on the other end that I’d probably have to call 'em back as I was going through the black hole.

Been an AT&T cell customer for about 10 years now. No complaints. They have been building out more infrastructure in this area the past couple years. I’m getting one of those mini-repeaters too (free!) although I probably don’t need it anymore. We had issues in the basement a couple years ago, but I can now get a bar’s signal strength even down there starting sometime recently (?). Dropped calls happen occasionally, no biggie. I think that is just the nature of cellular service for any carrier. It depends on your specific location and coverage effects.

Why does everyone with a personal problem think it crosses universal boundaries to apply for everyone?

I could do the same thing when I had Verizon. Go figure.

I’m an ATT customer but I’m looking to change. However, not for the reasons stated in the OP because my reception is quite good at home and elsewhere.

My problem is there doesn’t seem to be a good alternative to the standard service plan, and the bullshit marketing ploys inherent to everything they do.

There are all kinds of rates, but it seems I either have to pay a lot more, or change to a per-use plan that would drive me crazy. Last time I looked, the per use plan charges you a standard rate if you use the phone on a given day. So if someone calls ME, I get charged. I’d find myself going crazy trying to go a certain number of days without using the phone. There doesn’t seem to be much in between that plan and what I already have.

Then I go into one of the stores to see about getting a new phone. “This one costs $99, but there’s a rebate for $50,” they tell me.

“Oh, so I send in the rebate and get the money back?”

"No, you get a Visa card with $50 on the account. "

“I don’t want another credit card. I just want the money back like it says.”

“Well you have to take the credit card.”

“Bye. Call me when you have a real offer and not bullshit marketing that I can’t believe anyone actually opts for.”

I’ve had AT&T before it became Cingular and am still with them now that their back to being AT&T. I’ve had an iPhone since the 1st gen phone. Drop calls occasionally happen in certain spots of my city but I’ve noticed it happens with almost anyone I know on AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, etc. Usually due to geographic characteristics of the area (below ground level underpass for example).

I also travel all over the US for business. It is rare I encounter a city with poor reception/service although I mostly travel to medium to large cities and not to rural areas. If I’m in San Fran or NYC, I expect a degradation of my service. Outside of those two key areas, I find I have 3G service and good phone connections (I’m on my phone for work a lot) and internet connectivity (email, web, etc.).

People’s near hysterical complaints about AT&T service has never really resonated with me. They are a mobile phone service provider. They are good in some areas, not good in others. Just like all the others.

It’s a gift card that can be used pretty much anywhere. Not quite as handy as cash but not a big deal.

They told me it was a credit card.

But either way, it’s not really a rebate. You’re still spending the same amount of money, just some of it on the phone and some of it on other stuff. I find this dishonest.

i agree with that…and i wonder what % of funds actually gets used up?

because when you get down to those last couple of bucks it becomes a pain in the ass to use…

sometimes merchants arent willing to charge $4.23 on your gift card and the balance on your credit/debit card

I’m a T-Moblie … evidently about to become an AT&T customer. Exceptional service, great coverage in a weakly-covered area. Not sure what to expect, but can’t imagine the coverage is going to do anything but improve. Will the buy help current AT&T customers?

^^ I dont know if the TMO/ATT venture will help connectivity…Ive read that ATT already uses TMO towers to help in weak areas…

but what does a rube like me know anyways

No, they told you it was a Visa card. Think of it more as a pre-loaded debit card. It’s a gift card that can be used anywhere that accepts Visa.
So you’ll spend your next $50 with the Visa card they sent you instead of your own check/cash/credit cards. Unless you were planning to stop spending money, I think you’ll be okay.

Depending on how the card and the merchant’s machine are set up, there’s a good chance that if you charge more then what’s on the card it’ll just take out the remaining balance and tell the cashier to collect the difference. That’s what our machine does for regular gift cards and debit cards when there isn’t enough in the person’s bank account to cover the charge, I’d assume it would be the same for this.

i read a study that mail-in rebates have a very low claim rate…at least the pre=paid card is automatic…
but why not send us a check instead?..PPcards have to be cheaper in some regard

My WAG, is that if you send someone a check and they cash it, they’ve claimed 100% of the rebate. If you send someone a Visa card, they might only use some of the money and forget about the rest or lose the card before it’s all used up. On top of that, there’s probably statistics that show how many people cash the checks VS use the Visa cards.
In the end, yes, it’s cheaper. If it wasn’t, they wouldn’t have made the switch.

On the one hand, I take your point. But I still find the distinction unimportant and the whole thing dishonest and sleazy.

If they can sell a $99 phone for less, then do it. Don’t try to rope me into a whole other circle of spending and rigmarole. At least if you’re going to claim there’s a rebate, make it a real rebate and be done with it.

I realize that in the large sense, this sort of marketing works for companies. But I find it makes me want to shower and then find a straightforward company that does business without deception. Unfortunately, that seems to be more and more difficult.

I have AT&T and my work phone is Verizon. Good coverage with either phone but both phones have areas where the signal is bad. Sometimes the areas coincide, other times, not so much.
