I get to see Howard Shore conduct LOTR on Saturday!

Briefly considered putting this in Cafe Society, but it’s more of a mundane and pointless “Whoo-ha, I’m going to a concert!” post than any kind of debate about music or whatever.

So… whoo-ha, I’m going to a concert! For my birthday, my mom is paying for my ticket to go see Howard Shore conduct the Columbus Symphony Orchestra in selections from the LOTR score. There’s also going to be a pre-concert lecture in which he answers questions previously emailed to the CSO by audience members. I emailed my questions in today; supposedly if they pick one of mine to ask him during the event, I get a free signed LOTR poster, which is cool.

I am totally psyched about this. MrWhatsit is too, because staying home and watching our toddler and newborn gives him an excellent excuse to avoid going to the symphony. (I jest but a little.)

Howard Shore, baybee! And the first time I’ve been out of the house for more than two hours since the baby was born! YEE-HA!

Most definitely cool. That would be quite an experience. We shall expect a full review, naturally.

The other day I was watching Ed Wood and realized that Howard Shore scored that movie, as well. I loved the cool, eerie 50’s flying saucer music he worked out for the opening titles. That guy’s a definite genius! Have fun.

I’ll be singing with the Sydney Philharmonia Choir at three (possibly four) performances of The Lord of the Rings when Howard Shore comes to Sydney in June.

**MsWhatsit ** - did you enjoy the concert? Can you recall how long it went for? I’m asking because my choir is singing in four performances of the LOTR Symphony next week. The music we have is just the choir parts, not the full score and we’ve been wondering how long the symphony is.

Four concerts in Sydney and not one in Melbourne. Poop.

I don’t know why the promoters haven’t organised concerts in Melbourne too. The four concerts in Sydney have completely sold out and I would have thought there’d be just as much interest in Victoria as in NSW.
