Not so mundane or pointless to me, as I have been a huge fan forever, but my husband found out they’re playing at the Nashville Symphony Tuesday night and told me to buy us tickets. We got (what looks to be) awesome seats, and I can’t wait. Sadly, my excitement is lost on my coworkers – everytime I am asked why I am so giggly, and I tell them, I get the blank stare ™ and “who?”
What a wonderful way to celebrate our first anniversary – even if it will be off by a few days, our anniversary is Friday, the show is Tuesday.
I’m jealous, I love the Chieftains. I haven’t seen them in over a decade. I played three of their CDs on Friday when I had friends over. I wasn’t planning to play three, but neither friend has ever heard of them and loved them immediately.
What?! Chieftains are going to be in Tennessee? I wonder if they are going to be playing anywhere near me in Ohio/Michigan… checks Chieftain’s website
OMG there’s a show in Marion, OH this Friday! checks theatre’s website
OMG there are still tickets available! purchases tickets online runs back to thread
Yay, I’m going to see them! I’m a big fan and I’m so psyched! Thanks for this thread or I never would have known (or more likely, found out a week later and then been really bummed).
Wow, that’s weird. Every time one of their songs plays on my iPod, I think “too bad they’re not still together”. I don’t know why I would think that, considering so many 60’s and 70’s bands are still together. Although to be honest, I still prefer the Dropkick Murphy’s version of “Rocky Road to Dublin”.
I never would have known they were playing Nashville except that my husband insists on listening to one of the odd radio stations in town – they never play the Chieftains, but for some reason mentioned the show. My husband rocks! Sometimes
Mirasol, glad to be of assistance!
Baraqiyal, I do the same thing with the Pogues, though to be fair, isn’t Shane McGowan dead? I like Dropkick Murphys, but I like the Chieftains’ version of RR2D better.
I am burning a cd for my supervisor today. She listens to country music, but has a somewhat (at least compared to many I work with) open mind – I am thinking I will have her hooked. Tomorrow is our first anniversary, and although my husband is claiming the tickets aren’t an anniversary present, I still want to do something nice for him in return. I shall have to find something way cool.
Saw them in 1994. They’re so astonishingly talented they made me realise for the first time that it doesn’t have to be the classical oeuvre that creates High Art.
I saw them in '93 or '94. Definitely one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. The only album of theirs I have is An Irish Evening which I bought at the show, but it’s a staple of my collection.
If you like the Chieftans, may I introduce you to Empty Hats?
Not as nationally known, I’ll grant you that, but we’ve caught them at three Renaissance Fairs and have never been disappointed…we also have three of their CDs.
