Very exciting. I was at a local band’s show recently where the reverb was off. The lead singer fixed it, and then said he was really not trying for a “Strokesesque-bohemian recording feel.” You know you’ve reached critical mass as a band when “esque” is added to your name.
Well we’ll just have to sit here in the corner pouting, xavier. Do you think i can grab the ticket if i pounce on Lucki Chaarms? no? just a thought. Ah well, I’ll just have to go to that manics gig instead…
I’m fairly sure I saw the Strokes as a warm-up act for You Am I in Sydney (the Enmore? The Metro?) a few years ago. I remember telling someone that I kinda liked their stuff, I just hoped they got the reverb fixed before the main band came out…
I saw the Strokes about a month ago. They have the best opening act: Har Mar Superstar. Oh man; this guy is like if Jack Black had an oversexed twin brother who sang R&B. It’s awesome. Almost better than the Strokes themselves!
The Strokes are the “next big thing”? I think they’re kind of the current big thing! Do you think they’ll get any bigger than they are right now? I doubt it.
Really. I hate the Strokes. Out of the current collections of bands being touted, give me The Datsuns over all of them. Incredible band. It’s like Deep Purple never when Classical…
Now, do all you people who profess to hate The Strokes so much really find their music that annoying, or is it more what they stand for, i.e. the current load of bands that may or may not be any good but are hyped up by critics and press and hordes of insanely devoted fans?
Or is it more like you don’t like them because you think there’s another band that deserves what they have, like Twisty’s comment on the Datsuns?
