I got an A in algebra

I’m 55. I’m a ninth-grade dropout. This is the first time I’ve ever studied math beyond kitchen arithmetic.

I’m pleased. And, frankly, surprised.

Good job!

What’s the value of x?

StG

I may (or may not) write a pit thread about Pearson’s MyMathLab.

Well done, Frank!

Good for you. I’m impressed.

Well done! You should be proud.

No, What is the value of y?

But seriously, grats!

Well done!

Good work. I am inspired.

Woohoo! Congratulations!

Did you learn the value of 0.99999… ?

Awesome Frank. I’m right there with you. 40 years old, failed at just about any math I took in high school, and I find myself amazed when I pass the tests. I took my Algebra121 final on Friday, so I’m on tender-hooks waiting for my grades. And I’ll second the hatred of Paerson’s crappy MyMathLab. Graphing on it sucks, big time.

Nothing beats some Good, Hot “X” on a cold winter evening!

Really? I loved Mymathlab when I took Algebra and Stats. I don’t think I would have passed them without it. What didn’t you like about it?

Ok. Thanks for posting this d-bear and Frank.
I’m 46 years old, female so no longer the cute young thing looking for a job.
I also failed out of any math type class I was forced to take in school and was essentially just pushed thru school.
After getting laid off in March of this year I decided enough was enough and started taking accounting and bookkeeping night classes last month to help me get a better job.
Fridays class was on Algebra and I have been feeling like an idiot ever since.
After reading your posts I will keep on keeping on, working hard to make this work.

Congratulations! This is inspirational - good job!

Congratulations! What’s next for you?

Not even bullshitting --and yes, I find it necessary to make this disclaimer, as pretty much everything else I say here is a load of crap-- I have never seen a single thread on this board that has made me so happy. You wear the cat’s pajamas, Frank.

That is fantastic Frank.

I wish I could have done so well, especially since I took algabra no less than four times (long story behind it, won’t bother here).

Frank, you now kick the ass of 99% of the university students who ever came to me for tutoring in Chemistry. They could not put a “word problem” into equations, nor solve a single equation, much less a system of two equations. The notion that the thing to solve for could be anything other than x? I thought their heads would explode every time I tried to explain that one!

Congratulations to you, best wishes to D-Bear, and “call it ‘x’” spirit for NIKI50.
