I got another Maine Coon

Two and half years ago, I posted this thread:

So, I got a Maine Coon kitten

Last October, my 16 year old little black moggie, Meg, was diagnosed with a large abdominal tumour, so euthanasia it was.

Sheldon was not happy on his own, so the search was on for a companion.

My original plan was to get a girl (you can probably guess what I was going to name her…), but I saw one photo of that wee face and just immediately said “that’s Leonard”. I didn’t intend to get one quite so similar to Sheldon, it just worked out that way. He is from the same breeder, but I’ve checked their pedigrees, and remarkably they are not actually related.

After two or three days of hissing and growling from Sheldon, he started to relent. They started out by playing together, which would still be punctuated by the odd hiss. Now they play very happily together - quite alarmingly roughly at times, and they have a great mad half hour together, charging around. When nearly 20 lbs of adult Maine Coon chases a 4 month old Maine Coon at full pelt around your apartment, you know all about it.

They also cuddle

I reckon I’ve now got the hang of this business of sharing your home with Maine Coons, but would still love chat and pics from others. (I won’t say owners, cause you never truly own a cat!).

If you want to follow the adventures of Leonard and Sheldon, they do also have their own Instagram - SoftKittyMaineCoons.

I love Maine Coons, and you’ve got two beauties! My current cat is only partly Coon, but she displays all the wonderful characteristics of one.

And what a great tribute to Sheldon Leonard!

I read the OP without looking at who posted it, assuming it was someone in America. I looked at the first picture and was surprised to see the unmistakable back of a Scottish tenement! Nice cats.

And unmistakable Scottish January weather on the window pane.

The adorable fluffballs have a new Instagram follower.

We have a pair of Maine Coon sisters/litter mates who will be two in April. Named Stevens and Ballou because Cat. They have the dog thoroughly cowed and take unholy delight in teasing her. The daily Thirty Minutes of Crazy has necessitated putting anything frangible or portable behind closed doors or held down with museum wax. They are conversational and definitely have Opinions. They take over the dog’s crate during the day as that is the best viewing spot for the bird feeder and the red squirrel who visits daily.

I know that no cat thread is complete without pictures but I have had no success in attaching any. Help?!

You have to put the (mandatory) pics in a photo or file-sharing platform, and link to it. I use DropBox. Flickr is another option.

Dying to see your girls.

I like the description of the “daily Thirty Minutes of Crazy”, because that is definitely what happens in this household.

Enjoy!

My coon cat died last month. :frowning: We’ll probably adopt another shelter cat (or pair of kittens) when
we are ready. But I do sort of hope to get another coon. We’ll see.

Hope this works:

OP - congratulations on your new companion! I love his widdle nose. :stuck_out_tongue:

It worked. Adorable, the pair of them.

My part Maine Coon https://s22.photobucket.com/user/Bookkeeper2/media/IMG_2941.jpg.html?sort=2&o=2, Zen, having a snooze. And no, it’s not a trap, he would love to have his chest thoroughly fondled!

Gorgeous girls. Love the “one up, one down” photo. Fabulous ear tufts! I don’t think Leonard is going to have very tufty ears.

So cute. I could eat them up.
Hello, Leonard from my ‘Meezers’ Bear and Meeko!

Meow!

Sheldon! Those EARS!

Oh My Word, incredible! young adults? Oh man, they look actually a little intimidating, cats are so serious. those eyes, wow!

How beautiful!

Sorry, but PhotoBucket demands that I either pay them or endanger my computer by disabling my ad blocker.

Squee for all the MC pix

Sorry. I don’t use Photobucket much and hadn’t realized it had gone so far down the pay-to-play road.
