I got Covid for Christmas

I was thinking more along the lines of John Lennon’s “So This is Christmas”
I got Covid for Christmas
Temp a hundred and one
Coughing your lungs out
Is no goddam fun
So my youngest son has it now. I was hoping he wouldn’t get it since he had the double-Pfizer as soon as it was available to 16 year olds. He was scheduled to get a booster next week. Hopefully the vax makes symptoms mild for him. That makes the entire family-- it’s been very rough on my wife as well.
I’m just starting to get glimmers of being able to smell again. A couple days ago I popped a mentholyptus cough drop, and other than inhaling through my mouth and feeling the cold sensation, it might as well have been a sugar pill (my basic taste bud senses work just fine-- sweet salty sour bitter). The first thing I was able to smell, oddly, was toast. I wonder if we evolved to smell heated or burned smells better than others, similar to the way we have a dog-like ability to smell Petrichor in order to find sources of water. I can sort of taste my coffee this morning-- it’s no longer just slightly bitter hot water!
Wow. Thank you for that beautiful new word.
Don’t mention it. I learn at least one new thing every day from the SDMB, glad to pass it on.
Yes, thank you. Didn’t know that word either. I love smelling petrichor! One of my favorite smells.
I just confirmed I had COVID today. I had a weird reaction to it. I have both Pfizer shots and one booster I got in November.
Basically last Tuesday (December 28th 2021) I got a weird sore throat in the middle of the day at work. I worked normally but then took the next 5 days off. Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday I woke up with the worst sore throat of my life. But taking Tylenol made it go away, and those were the only symptoms. Sunday was first day I woke up without symptoms. I took a rapid test Sunday night and it showed I was negative for symptoms. Just to make sure though I scheduled a PCR test at Walgreens for that Tuesday. So Monday Tuesday Wednesday I’m completely fine, no symptoms of anything. Then Thursday I started getting entirely different symptoms, no sore throat but instead sneezing and runny nose with some feelings of hotness. Friday I again have the same sneezing and runny nose symptoms. I decided to take a second rapid test and it finally tested positive for COVID. Along with my PCR test later that day through email confirming my COVID.
Does anyone else know why I had two completely different types of COVID symptoms separated days apart? My first symptoms were the typical Omicron symptoms while the second symptoms seem more in line with regular COVID.
Free! FREE!
My Time of Isolation is OVER!
Of course I now have a list of chores to do that involve going out and running around, but I’m so glad to be out of my place I don’t even mind the cold.
