I got engaged today

My boyfriend took me away for the weekend to Maine. This morning, on Old Orchard Beach, he asked me to marry him. I said yes … none of this was really unexpected, as I knew he bought the ring in November, but it was just perfect.

After the giddiness wore off, I remembered that I have to tell my parents and plan a wedding, or rather decide if I want one. Not really sure on all of that, but I look down at the ring and smile.

Not really mundane or pointless, but something I needed to share.

Congratulations and best wishes!

I didn’t have a “wedding” - and we’ve been married almost 18 years!

Best wishes to both of you!

Yay! Congrats.

To those who have offered congratulations…were you raised by wolves??? One never offers congratulations to the bride-to be! To do so is to imply, “Congratulations, you finally managed to catch a man.” One offers the bride-to-be “best wishes.”

 I wish I could find a cite for this incredibly stupid and sexist rule that I grew up with.

Best wishes and congratulations to you and your intended, gfloyd!

Did we have the same mother?

(And I echo the closing sentiments.)

Congratulations. Wishing you both a lifetime of joy and hapiness.

Woohoo! <flinging confetti with wild and reckless abandon>

Here’s wishing you and your sweetie a happily-ever-after!

Great news! Best wishes and congratulations to both of you.

I think that custom is dying out, that both can be congratulated. Our Cecil thinks so, anyhow.

I have never heard this rule before, and I agree that it’s appallingly stupid. Of course, I wasn’t raised by wolves, but I was raised by Canadians, some of whom had huskies.

Best wishes and congratulations to you and your intended, gfloyd!

Harrumph. I not only eschewed congratulations, I did so without drawing attention to the fact.

Those are manners, you hussy!

Huzzah! May there be many more giddy days ahead!

So have you set a date yet? Where’s it gonna be? How many attendants are you going to have? Sit down or buffet? Will there be dancing? What are your colors? Are you going to write your own vows?

There you go. Now you’re ready for what comes after the giddiness. Best wishes.

Congratulations, salutations, felicitations, complications, and good expectations! My best wishes. mwah

May you have a wonderful and interesting life together!!

From someone whose first language uses the same word for “bride” and “girlfriend”… felicidades on being in that funny state between being his novia and being his novia

I’m English, we do things differently here…

Many congratulations to you both!

I was not raised by wolves. I was raised by a bitch. :stuck_out_tongue:

Thank you, everyone. I don’t have a date, a color or anything like that, nor am I sure I will. We’re considering eloping, as his family thinks I’m evil and I’m not too fond of them.

My fiancee and I work together, so all day people were wandering by my cubical to point and stare.

freckafree is correct, and for precisely the reason mentioned. This is the Gospel according to Miss Manners (I believe in her Guide to Excrutiatingly Correct Behavior). While Cecil is the Perfect Master and ultimate authority on all other matters, in this I prefer to be guided by Miss Manners.

gfloyd, may you love as long as you live and live as long as you love. I wish you all the best.
