It is AWESOME! I’ll probably alternate between Firefox and Internet Explorer, a lot of my posts will be from Firefox. Including this one.
Great. All you need now is Pimpzilla, and you’re all set!
Welcome to 2004.
Oh you big meanie. That’s it, you’re not getting a Gmail invite now!
Yeah, I’m a little behind. I procrastinate, that’s what I do. And, also, if you spell a word wrong when, posting to the SDMB for example, a red squiggle will appear below the word, like in Microsoft Word. You probably knew that, just thought I’d share.
And you call me a meanie! Right, that’s it. I’m going to write some mean things about you in my web log (“blog”).
Welcome to the world for decent browsing, Captain Socks. Get some good plugins and you’re away - AdBlock and Filterset.G for a start.
Always great seeing another convert!
Is there an easy way to import your cookies and passwords into Firefox from Internet Explorer? I like Internet Explorer, and certainly don’t mind using it at all, but I do miss my StumbleUpon…
It’s been years, but I’m sure it imported them as part of the initial installation.
Yup. From the Help info:
Maybe a step was missed?
You can trigger it again from the Bookmarks tab, find the Import selection.
Also, v3 is getting closer to done.
Now, if you were to install Opera, then you’d be really ecstatic.
(Ducks and runs.)
The more you use Firefox, the less you’ll want to use IE. The only time I use IE now is when a site won’t work properly in Firefox.
Wait a minute. Firefox does that? How? I’m using Firefox, and when I’m bothered to spellcheck I have to paste it into Text Edit.
What version of Firefox are you using? I think that spellcheck as you type has been standard since at least 2.x.
If you have 2.x, go to Tools > Options and click on Advanced. The click on the **General ** tab, and select the box marked “Check my spelling as I type.”
I hardly ever run across a site that doesn’t work in Firefox nowdays. At least not in my regular browsing. None of the sites i visit on a regular basis have any trouble in Firefox.
The last time i had to switch to IE in day-to-day use., i was trying to watch a video on an NBC website, and because of NBC’s partnership with Microsoft, it insisted that i use IE and Windows Media Player.
If a website works with IE and not Firefox, there’s a very good chance that it’s because the website creator hasn’t followed proper web standards. Unlike IE, Firefox actually renders HTML and CSS properly, and is compliant with W3C standards. But because IE has been the browser of (non-)choice for so many people, some web designers create their sites with only IE in mind, and fail to create compliant web sites.
As Firefox and Opera’s market share have increased (esp. Firefox), designers have started to realize that they can’t just ignore non-IE browsers anymore. If i ever run across a site that only works in IE, i send an email to the site’s owner telling him/her that i won’t be returning to the site until they make an effort to cater to more than 1 browser. They probably just bin my email, but it makes me feel better to write it.
If you need to use IE, get the IE Tabs extension. It allows you to use IE within Firefox.
I was one of the last to go to Firefox, and they had to drag me there kicking and screaming, but now it is all I use.
However, there are many website designers who simply do not care if their site works in Firefox (or Safari or Netscape for that matter). At the school where I work, their major website (where we post attendance, etc.) that is used across the entire USA was designed to work on IE only and they simply have a disclaimer “use IE only” on the site.
I know a guy who designs targeted email blasts for a major casino. They are quite nice, with lots of beautiful design and Flash features. He said the top brass told him, “We only care if it works on IE. Our customers don’t use Firefox and other browsers, so don’t waste our time and money trying to make the sites work for them.”
On the upside, I have seen that the new version of IE looks suspisciously like Firefox and it seems to be easier to have sites work on both browsers now.
I will admit that when I go to see the statistics regarding visitors to my websites, about 85% or more still only use IE, the next largest group is Firefox (about 10%) with Safari, Linux and Netscape occasionally showing up on the list.
StumbleUpon rules. It’s the main thing I’ll still use IE for, unless it’s Firefox compatible.
May I please hijack I have a Firefox related question that is annoying me?
I switched to Firefox about a month ago. 99% of the time it is awesome, but when I got to YouTube it tells me I need to download the latest version of Flash. So I go and try to download the latest version and it starts to but then a window pops up telling me, “You need to close an appilcation before we continue: Firefox.”
Ok, no big deal. I close Firefox and then open IE and go to the Flash sight and download the latest version. I close IE and open Firefox back up and go back to YouTube and it still says I need the latest version of Flash. I go back to the Flash sight and try to download it and again it tells me I need to close Firefox before it can continue.
So I am at a lost. Has this happened to anyone else? If so how can I fix it? Thank you.
