I got laid off on Friday

Just wanted to share with my extended family. I’m alright since I still live at home. I can collect unemployment until I find a new job.

My ever-optimistic brain decided to decode this as “I got laid on Friday”. Anyway, good luck with the job search. As for me, it’s Saturday night and I ain’t got nobody…

I almost made my title I got Laid on Friday and put inside laid-off that is but I decided to not go for the easy one liner.

As for me, It’s Sunday morn and I ain’t go nobody just like Saturday night and like the past 6 years

Manny, I’m very sorry. I hope you find something very soon.

You’re in luck, Pammipoo’s old job is now available

Seriously though, what did you do and where did you do it…maybe someone here can help you out? You know, the Good Ole Dope Network[sup]TM[/sup].

Well I already did the McDoanlalds route as for what I did well…

I’m an MCSE (NT 4.0 certified working on 2000) who worked telephone tech support for a mail order company. My job was to help the sales people sell the customers the correct items and when the customers received the items to help them configure them. If I did not know the product well enough (Cisco products, most print servers), I would call either the distrubitor we purchased from or the mfr for assistance.

I could apply for a sales position and be hired but I don’t think I would feel comfortable for a company that just let me go with no warning.

Don’t want to be too tough on you since you just found yourself out of work, but make sure you are careful on the spelling when you start the job hunting / resume process. Also, could be wrong, but I am guessing you meant MSCE (MicroSoft Certified Engineer) and not MCSE (MCdonalds Sales Engineer)? If so that’s a fairly marketable skill.

But more importantly for now, in which part of the country do you reside?

Aww Manny. Even after you stopped posting here during work hours? See, you shoulda continued to post and read up a storm— that woulda learned them!

I reside in New Jersey currently, I would relocate but my credit is very very very very very very very very poor so I don’t think I could rent an apartment. Thankfully most of my credit card bills will be wiped out by what I am getting in the form of severence. And yes it is Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer

Well I did continue to read up a storm here, just cut back on posting. They didn’t have any complaints with my use of the internet at work. I think it’s just time for a little break. I can collect unemployment for 26 weeks so I’m not destitude (yet) On a lighter note, I can now go into NY for any dinners

Dammit, Biggirl stole my thunder.

Sorry to hear you got laid off, but I do hope you enjoy your hiatus from employment. (Positive spin… positive spin…)

This could eventually turn out to be a good thing. And you’re right, who wants to work for a company that laid you off with no warning.

I am going to try to enjoy this time off. It will take me a little while to get used to not having to go to work in the morning

What kind of job did you used to have?

Never mind. Got it.

Manny- With an MCSE you should not be out of work too long. Check out techiegold.com, monster.com, and send me an email with a resume, and I’ll send you some phone numbers from my agency. The Hellhouse is going down, it’s just a matter of time before you would be laid off from sales. Stay away from the Hellhouse bastards. They pay crappy too. Quitting there was one of the better things I’ve done in life. You’ll be surprised at what kind of money you’ll have thrown at you soon enough.

Good luck, though with the MCSE you won’t need it.

Best of luck finding a better and more fulfilling job, MannyL.

When you interview all the prospective employers who are sure to start beating down your door, don’t forget to ask them about that unlimited internet access thing. Wouldn’t want to take a step down instead of up, now would you?

Oh and by the way, enjoy your “vacation.”

Scotti

Wonko Wonko Wonko, (I’ve always wanted to say that) I’d send your my resume but two problems

  1. I don’t have your E-mail address
  2. I don’t have a resume

I’m going to check techiegold and monster later this week after I put together a resume of some sort.

MannyL- look at my profile button under this post- there should be an email link in there.
