I got me a laptop!

After a long period of Laptop Lust, my desires have been fulfilled.

This thing is a Compaq Evo N1000v. It’s got a P4 2Ghz processor, 512 MB of RAM, and some manner of ATI video processor in it. A friend of mine sold it to me for dirt cheap because the CDRW/DVD drive is busted and, according to him, pees the carpet when he tries to play Warcraft III on it. But I’m not one to let such small things get in the way of a cheap computer.

So, I installed Debian (Sarge) on it. I started out on Debian when I first started using Linux sometime in 2000, so I’m a tad rusty on it. On the other hand, Debian also has the best-documented network install available; and it’s easily done by floppy.

I named it zigzag. I’m not sure why, it just came to mind.

Nothing really to add to your post ‘cept I, too, lusted mouth-wateringly for a laptop for eons. Got one now, tho’. Doesn’t sound as swish as yours, but I love it. Good onya!

I was so excited when I bought my first laptop. It was a Texas Instruments Pentium 75 with 24 MB of ram, and a 200 MB hard drive. That thing was BITCHIN!

Then one night I left it in my car, and as luck would have it my car was stolen that very night. I never saw the laptop again.

I wept.

I bought my laptop about five years ago. It has a screaming 133mHz processor! w00t! :stuck_out_tongue: Oh, and it still has Win95 on it; so it’s pretty much unusable.

I was hanging out at the studio the other day while the owner was on an errand. I got on one of his G5 Macs to check my e-mail. drool 20" widescreen display, nice and fast…

Anyway, I thought I’d check out iPods since I’ll need to get one eventually. From iPods I browsed over to the Powerbooks. drool again I have a feeling that my next computer will be a G4 Powerbook with a 15" display.

I just scored one of these monsters. Damn near bullet proof, touch screen, backlit keyboard and FAST built in CDMA modem and a built in GPS, which works like a charm. I love it, but DAMN is it heavy.

buttonjockey: We’ve got a few of those Toughbooks floating around at our squadron. Expensive and heavy, yes, but rugged as anything.

Lucky stiff. Enjoy your new gadgetry.
