I got my biopsy results today

Sorry for your news, but I know/work with/am related to several women who beat this and are 100% recovered and I know you’ll join their ranks.

Sending virtual tuna noodle casseroles and kisses meanwhile,
Jon

Wow, good luck ivylass. I know lots of people beat this, and I know several women personally who have. Which isn’t to say this is a walk in the park – its horrid knowing what you know now, and the treatment is unpleasant at best. But please don’t get discouraged along the way, no matter how you feel on your worst days. One day at a time.

Sending major karmic vibes of goodness your way, ivylass. I wonder how you would feel about answering some personal questions? You can of course ignore me, but I’m curious…

How old are you?
When did you start getting mammograms, and how often have you gotten them? Ever had anything come up in a previous exam?
I know you have kids, how old is your oldest?
Do you have any history of breast cancer in your family?

I am very curious because I am 34 and pregnant, and have never had a mammogram. My husband’s mother got breast cancer quite young (he was about 5 years old when she was diagnosed) and I recently read an article about a woman who was diagnosed while still pregnant. It’s been at the back of my mind to get a mammogram, although I don’t know if insurance will pay for it.

Anyway, best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Good luck, Ivylass. I’m sure you’ll do well with treatment, especially since they caught it early. ::hugs::

I’m so sorry, Ivylass. We’ll be here when you need us!

How old are you? 40

When did you start getting mammograms, and how often have you gotten them? I had one at about age 36, and this is my second one

Ever had anything come up in a previous exam?** Nope**

I know you have kids, how old is your oldest? My son is 18 and my daughter just turned 16

Do you have any history of breast cancer in your family? An aunt on my father’s side died of breast cancer about 18 years ago

Cancer ain’t got a prayer, its Hulk Hogan against Carrot Top. Well, a very feminine and demure Hulk Hogan, to be sure…

Sic 'em!

Ivylass, my very best wishes going out to you.

Best thoughts for you and your family** Ivylass**. Is sounds like you and yours have the attitude that will take you through.

Good advice, and I’m a witness to the fact that 2 of the 3 women close to me who had breast cancer didn’t lose their hair. One of them wore a sort of cooling hat before, during, and after chemo, I think, to prevent hair loss.

Getting back to the topic, I’m glad you have a schedule now, Ivylass, it’ll help you plan things. I’ll be rooting for you every step of the way.

Here’s a website with a great message board that will prove invaluable as you go through your treatment.

Best of luck to you.

{{{ivylass}}} You know we’ll all help you thru this. Be strong, be positive. Good thoughts to you and yours!

Sending my thoughts and love your way, Ivylass. You will get thru this and everything will be okay.

I was diagnosed at 37 with Stage 2 breast cancer. My only child was 2 at the time. I am now 41 and doing fine (all mams since have been clear). Had a lumpectomy, chemo and radiation. You will be fine. This is just a blip on the radar. As others have mentioned, breast cancer treatment is much better (or so I hear) than many years ago. Glad they are doing the MRI. Great diagnostic tool. The worst part of the treatment was losing my hair (it grows back!).

I am mostly a lurker, so I will be following your progress. If you ever need someone to talk to (or email), I am always available. I can give you my email address if you would like. I didn’t really have anyone to talk to during my treatment that knew what it was like. I did try a couple of groups, but since I was so young, it was hard to relate. Most of the women in the groups were 60+!

Get this book…Susan Love’s Breast Book. Can’t tell you how much it helped me. Take care.

I have a friend from work who’s fighting colon cancer. She’s been in treatment (surgery, chemo, and radiation) for the last year and a half and didn’t lose her hair till early this year. So it might not be an issue for you.

I’m thinking of you and sending good thoughts your way. You will beat this!

Or even 1988, for that matter!

You have my positive thoughts, ivylass. You can beat this!

All my best sent your way. Breast cancer treatments have come a tremendous way.

you will be in my thoughts and prayers. i’m sorry the news wasn’t better.

in an odd happenstanse, i read an article in my allergists office on monday; about robin roberts of g.m.a… it described what the makeup and hair people did to keep her looking hdtv good while she was undergoing treatment. skin tends to go rather dry, skin colour changes, hair disappearing, etc.

the most interesting trivia thing i learned… they have eyebrow wigs!! for people who lose eyebrow hair from chemo or run of the mill skin/hair diseases. eyebrow wigs… who-da thunk!

ms roberts did not go the eyebrow wig route, but did go with false eyelashes, drawn in eyebrows, and wigs.

Sorry to hear the news, ivylass. I know several survivors who have gone through various treatments, and although it sucks (in general), it’s do-able. And, I have to say, as much as one can know anyone from their posts on a message board, you are a strong, feisty woman who isn’t going to give up, so keep fighting.

Good thoughts in your direction - for both you and your family. (Although it sounds like ivylad has stepped up as he should - you’ve got a good one there.)

You and your family are in my prayers, ivylass.

Regards,
Shodan
