I guess I watch all the wrong shows (Emmys)

I’ve seen all or most of:

  • Better Call Saul
  • The White Lotus
  • Abbot Elementary
  • The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
  • Ted Lasso
  • Dead to Me
  • Poker Face
  • Dahmer
  • Weird: The Al Yankovic Story
  • Bob’s Burgers
  • The Simpsons

I’ve seen some of or am in the middle of watching

  • Succession
  • The Handmaid’s Tale
  • Barry
  • Rick and Morty
  • Antiques Roadshow
  • Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives (I used to watch fairly often but haven’t tuned in in years)
  • (And of course I’ve seen most of the game shows on the list. That’s My Jam is the only one I haven’t seen)

I have not yet seen, but are on my list and will watch when I have time in my schedule:

  • The Bear
  • Only Murders in the Building
  • Beef
  • The Last of Us
  • The Diplomat

I know, right? I was actually kind of happy to hear about the strike, because it will give me time to get through my backlog of shows I want to watch but haven’t gotten around to.

I watch that, too. It’s a good show; maybe not quite Emmy worthy given the quality of all the competition, but very good.

I love that one! And John McEnroe’s a hoot as the narrator. At first I was like, “What’s John Freakin’ McEnroe, of all people, doing in this?” But then I was like, “Hey, yeah, it works!”

House of the Dragon yes. But other than one, all its noms were for technical.

Ted Lasso, I had heard about it, found out it was sportsball, so nope. BC Saul is in the horrible implausible world of Breaking Bad, so again- no.

I use to watch the Simpsons.

I agree.

By no means did I imply that. In fact I said “I guess I watch all the wrong shows”.

Mind you, many are on Streaming, of which I only have Amazon.

The Rookie is one of our faves, for example.

I despise netflix.

I mean, I hate sports. I was pretty bummed when I tuned in for the first time and realized it’s about a sports coach. But by the end of the first episode, I was intrigued, and by episode 2 I was hooked. Ted Lasso is unique to other shows because it’s about a good man and how he influences the people around him to be better, too. After being inundated with these shows that center on awful people, it’s so damned refreshing.

It’s quite funny, too.

Its been decades since the shows I watch are actually nominated on the Emmy’s.

Of this list, I’ve seen Andor, The Al Yankovich Story, and Poker Face.

Of the top shows nominated, i have little interest in ever watching them. They are just genres or storylines I don’t like or care about.

Thought this article might be of interest to some of the folks here:

I’ve always had the same problem with the Emmys (and other major awards). It feels like the focus is always pretty narrow. Usually a few shows dominate and steamroll all the categories even when there are many deserving options out there.

That said, the only real surprise for me after reviewing the list was Obi-Wan. I love the Star Wars universe but that one left me scratching my head.
