I had my Cheeseburger in Paradise!!!

Well, I just returned from my vacation in the Keys. We had a really good time. We stayed in Islamorada at a little “cottagy” type place. We fished, swam in the pool, my hubby did some snorkeling. I read and took about a million pictures with my snazzy new digital camera. (I’ll try to get them posted soon.)

Wednesday we went to Key West and spent the day there. We rented a scooter and zipped around all over the place seeing sights. We went to the lighthouse and climbed to the top. We went to Margaritaville and had the aforementioned Cheeseburger in Paradise. We went to the Mel Fisher Maritime Heritage Museum, where I bought a charm made from silver recovered from Nuestra Senora de Atocha (my own little piece of history). We didn’t go to Hemingway House, but we did go to the “Little White House”.

Mostly though, we just relaxed and had a good time. I read 6 books while I was there.

It was fun, but I’m glad to be home. US1 is not fun as the only means of getting anywhere down there, and I missed my critters!

I love the Keys! If I could have moved any slower the two times I was down there, I’da been a tree stump. And, of course, the cheeseburgers at Margaritaville live up to the reputation.

I am soooo jealous.

Yeah, rundogrun, the cheeseburger was really good, but I didn’t have a margarita 'cause I figured I’d probably end up with heatstroke if I did.

Bumped because ** TA ** is complaining her threads die so fast She pissed me off.

Yeah, US1. Try livin down there. Three hours to the nearest retail experience and that’s if you aren’t stuck behind some camper goin 40mph on US1.

The ride is nice the first time or two, and some spots are truely remarkable. (I love Islamorada) But when you are making that drive even once every two or three months, it can get really old, really quick.

Even paradise has it’s price.

Jane, next time you’ll have to go on the back of my motorcycle, I’ve done it dozens of times, and haven’t gotten tired of it yet! Last few times have been in a car, and it isn’t quite the same. Bugs in the teeth, yeah, that’s the way to do it!

I guess that means I’ll be makin’ plans to head down to Miami in February for that MiamiDopefest? NightBlooming Jasmine, a ride into the Keys, no snow or Chicago winter to think about. The seven mile bridge on a bike. Well, I’ll be there guy!

lurker, honey, you get a hug for that. Oh, and give TP one just because.

Jane D’oh, wow, I can’t imagine living down there and having to do that drive all the time. It is gorgeous, but you absolutely cannot afford to get in a hurry–'cause there just ain’t no way!

The way I take it, there ain’t no REASON to be in a hurry, gotta stop in at Alabama Jack’s to get into “Key’s Tempo” on the way in, then chill for the remainder of the time in Monroe County. I don’t LIVE there, of course, so I can do that.

All I’m sayin’ is that when ya really gotta retail, I mean when K-Mart, Sears and Duval Street T-Shirt shops just won’t do, ya go to either Sawgrass or the Keys Outlet Mall.

It’s a long way to drive and ya really just know when your gonna get stuck behind a camper and the morning coffe is gonna kick in and suddenly those “Patience please only two minutes to a passing lane” really mean about twenty minutes til your someplace with a bathroom.

Don’t get me wrong, as I said, there are parts of that ride that are amazing and will always make my stomach flip cuz of the beauty. There is one spot on this drive where you can really feel Keys time kicking in.

Three hours to get to a true retail experience. A small price to pay for living in Paradise, but a price nonetheless. That’s all. And trust me when I say that sometimes, in the middle of January, in Chicago, it hardly seems like a price at all.
