I had surgery on my...

Neck. 15 months ago. A partial superficial parotidectomy.

You?

Eye, when I was very little, to correct a problem in which my eyes would not always look in the same direction (not lazy eye, but I forget what the condition was called). They had to take my eyeball out of its socket.

screeeeeeem! Holy moses, they can do that? Wow.

Knee to remove the cartilage, skin to remove cancer (and big chunks of flesh), arm to put in pins then remove them years later, arm again for microsurgery on arteries, veins and nerves after an accident. More of that one to come

Jaw, I have four little screws in there now. It was a 7.5 hour surgey.
Also , my eyelid and my ankle.

Stomach. Lap-band surgery to be exact. It’s a less dangerous kind of weight loss surgery than the more publicized gastric bypass. As surgeries go it was pretty minor. But, still, here’s hoping that’s the last time they have to open me up for a long while to come.

Both eyes, to remove cataracts that I was born with. They had to slice open my cornea, yank my lens out, and implant a plastic…errr…implant.

So now I am The Man With The Bionic Eyes.

Fear my 20/20 vision.

Left eye, lazy-eye correction as a tyke.

Full vitrectomy on the right eye to repair a massive retinal detachment. I know have a sort of soft plastic “buckle” round my eyeball inside the socket.

Follow-up procedure a little over a year later to pop out a cataract, formation of which is a typical side effect to the procedure used to nail large detachments back into proper place.

Then some laser-zappings to nip a small retinal-tear-in-progress in the bud back in the left eye.

I’m definitely gettting artificial bionic replacements as soon as they’re available.

Jaw/Mouth - to remove my wisdom teeth.

Cesarean twice, appendix out and both eyes (cataracts removed.) All since getting pregnant with first kid 8 years ago. It is true that having babies destroys you!

Tongue.

I very nearly bit it off (hanging on by a few flesh strands - so they tell me) when I was young. Don’t remember it. But my mom has told me some pretty graphic stories about it. They had to sew it back on.

Yum!

Right foot. I had Metatursus Adductus, they opened up the top, sawed a pizza slice out of the first metatarsul, and pinned it back together with two pins, oriented in a better direction. I was 32. It felt better the day after surgery than it did the day before.

Skull/brain/spinal surgery - with complications - 2.5 months in hospital - 6 months off work in total. Fine now though

Testicles.

Had a Hydrocele. Operation was fine. Spent a few days in Hospital with a ice pack on my balls. Went home, walked like a gimp for a while. Fell in the shower, ripped my stitches, rushed to hospital holding my balls in with a towel. Major infection kicked in. Lots of hospital time followed.

The boys are all better now

Foreskin.

Removed finally at the age of 23 when I finally managed to convince doctors that I really couldn’t have sex with a foreskin that tight.

Had it done under local anaesthetic - lots of bruising and had to kneel to pee because my aim was all wrong. Learnt that it’s a bad idea to wear jeans and walk about a few days after such an op. On the good side mini-martiju has never been so big. On the bad side, even looking at it hurt!

Right fallopian tube. It was… weird. They supposedly fixed it. Twelve years later I finally got pregnant. I’m not banking on any causal connection.

Right pinky finger. It was slammed in a door and was broken and severely dislocated at the joint closest to the palm. They had to knock me out, open it up, put everything back in place and put small staple like devices in to mend the fracture. It works correctly now, but it aches when it’s damp outside.

Spine. They fused most of it three months shy of my 10th birthday. I recovered annoyingly fast, and I have an interesting (in the sense of very long) scar that runs up and down most of my back.

I got ear tubes when I was six. They didn’t work.

When I was twelve they had to go in and remove my bottom wisdom teeth from my jaw, so they put me out and did it and also removed four of my other teeth so I could get braces. Puking blood is disgusting.

Boobs. Had 'em reduced when I was 22. Never made a better decision.

Stomach. A Belsey Mark IV to fix a severe hiatal hernia and to detach my stomach from my heart. It has not healed right and my stomach problems are worse than ever…

They attempted to straighten my eyes out when I was 13, but it didn’t really work. I don’t remember it this way, but my mom says I declined the second operation, which I (supposedly) knew might be necessary. The condition is commonly called “crossed eyes”, but the formal term is “strabismus”.

Left eye 2X–lazy eye problem.

Right ovary and tube–removed.
