OK… Rewind forty years and recall this commercial:
Sometime in the late-'70s, or possibly early-'80s, there was a sketch on a comedy show that riffed on that commercial. It could have been Fridays, or it could have been SCTV. It may have even been Almost Live. I don’t remember.
The commercial/sketch showed a cute little baby seal (a plush one, IIRC) saying, more or less, ‘I hate Air Canada. Every day they bring thousands of people up here just to see me,’ and so on. Then offscreen you hear, ‘Oy, Jake! There’s one!’ The punchline:
A couple of guys come in and start beating the seal. A Spaulding baseball bat is superimposed on the screen and an announcer says some things about the Spaulding bat. I think he says something like, ‘Available at a sporting goods store near you!’ So the setup looks like an airline commercial, and the payoff is that it’s a commercial for a baseball bat.
Does anyone know what show this was on? Is this sketch available online?
