The background: Senator José Alperovich wants to be governor of my state, there is only one obstacle Alperovich is a jew, and according to the state constitution you have to be a catholic if you want to be governor. The same used to happen in the national constitution of 1853, it was later reformed and our president doesn’t need to be a son of god anymore (experience has shown that they are usually sons of the bitch but that is for the pit). So the problem is not that big, our national constitution is above the local one so that article (never reformed) is now unconstitutional.
As an anecdote the matter was bring to the public opinion by the Archbishop of my state that claimed that we have to respect the law (the rest of us forgot about that outdated article because we were to busy trying to survive the year 2002), what is more impressive is that the local muslim sheik (?) supported his catholic counterpart. Impressive because muslims can’t run for office too if the justice does not declare the inconstitutionality (it most certainly will). So in the smallest state in argentina, a country that has many defects but prides to be an inmigrant country, a country that never asked someone who wanted to come and live here about his race, religion or political orientation we have ourselves a merry “Religious hatred” that belongs not to south america but to other regions of this god forsaken planet.
The only thing that makes the situation not so horrible is that fortunately the majority of our society rejects our godly archbishop lowpunch. A minor exeptions is my cousin boyfriend and I quote "Why can’t we prohibit a JEW to run for office, after all the JEWS, do the same in ** their country ** I think the imbecile was talknig about Israel, a country that seems to practice religious discrimination, I know the scenario is different, but in a democracy you just don’t bend that rul (the right to elect and be elected). Anyway the last is for great debates a place in which you will find my rant against democracy.
