I Hate Big Cities

This thread was started right around the time my wife and I were looking to buy our row house in DC. Now, that house has tripled in value and we can walk to any number of different types of restaurants when we’re not going to shows, museums, or baseball games.

Ok, TIL I love cities and small towns. (and zombies)

I think the best of both worlds is to live in one, and visit the other.

And/or live in a college town in the Midwest. Last week, I saw a Broadway show (touring company, but they rocked), went to a fun art opening at 2 am, sampled different single malts at a cool distillery, and found a first edition Wodehouse.

I’ve had a plane ticket to NYC posted on the blackboard for weeks, leave in 3 days… getting excited. But there’s plenty of excitement here: yesterday I biked to a really small town, found a bakery then a coffee shop (with a knitting class going on…). Then came home, sat on the porch with a dog and a local beer and gazed out at a lake (no, not Smeghead’s lake).
ETA: Love Manhattan, but hate LA (had a conference there, and spent too many hours crawling along freeways). Liked Santa Monica, though!

And indeed, we are in Honolulu. In Waikiki. But despite a million people and being the largest city in the state, it’s amazingly compact with a small-town feel.
