His position on immigration is okay and better than a lot of what others are proposing.
I’ve heard he’s a heckuva pet owner.
Hey, could you be a little more careful with phrase?
It really has no place in an apology for the Bush Administration.
Bush is like a reverse king Midas. Everything he touches turns to shit. :smack:
But on a more serious note, I’m sure he’s done something positive during his term. Off the top of my head, I can’t think of any. But surely by random chance he’s done something right. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
Of the SDMB membership, I’d say I am one of the harshest critics of Dubya Bush.
I despise him on a personal level - that jerk is the fuckin’ spoiled rich kid we’ve all known in our lives. Not all of these examples apply to Dubya, but when you were growing up, didn’t we all know this kind of spoiled brat?
The kind of kid who:
• gets to be quarterback in high school, NOT because of ability but because of Dad
• gets the expensive sports car, gets tickets for speeding, crashes it while speeding, crashes it while driving drunk. No problem because rich old Dad has money and connections.
• Has a terrible academic background, but thanks to Dad, he makes sure his kid gets into the “right” schools, etc.
I could go on, but you get the idea. To me, Dubya is the worst type of person that could ever be elected President. He’s fucking immature (how about that goofy laugh huh?), his speaking style sucks, he’s totally out of touch with reality.
Just recently, his speech at Virginia Tech was an embarrassment when he said that the students were at “the wrong place at the wrong time”. Fucking brilliant. They should have been skipping school, doing cocaine, hanging out at a local bar?
I remember he called Hurricane Katrina a “wasteful hurricane”. Does he write this stupidity or does he have inept speech writers or does he just say “fuck it” and says whatever comes to mind?
Electing a spoiled rich kid to be US President, is a very dangerous thing to do.
Sorry for the uncivil posting and as asterion said, the assholish behavior.
In his defense, it worked out well for him.
I agree. I’d prefer somebody who was genuine. I have no problems with politicians like the Roosevelts or the Kennedys who acknowledge they grew up in wealth and privilege. But it’s a little condescending when somebody like George Bush pretends he’s “just folks”. It’s been five generations since anybody in the Bush family was middle class. It’s not just a matter of being deceptive - when somebody like Bush trys to pretend his personal life experience is typically American, it makes it easy for him to ignore the reality faced by people who actually are typical Americans.
Anyone want to place odds on whether the OP will even return to this thread?
Wow, TFD really is a piece of work, isn’t he?
What a weasel.
By the way I strongly suspect he isn’t Dutch.
Where are you from, TFD?
And are you ever going to respond to this thread you started?
Fucknugget.
Oh, wait I just saw you are Canadian.
Would you mind changing your username?
You are insulting all Dutch people.
We do not want to be associated with the likes of you.
My problem with Bush-bashing is that so many who do it are so over the top that it starts becoming caricature. I know one American who went to Pakistan to attend a wedding not too long ago, an ardent Bush-hater, but even he was amazed that in Karachi, Bush was blamed for every little thing imaginable. One example: the traffic lights weren’t working; that meant Bush signed the order himself to make it so! And he said they really believe it, ridiculous stuff like that, any little thing that goes wrong. It reminds me of quite a few bashers I read on this board actually.
I know this one guy, and he like said some really over-the-top unbelievable stuff about how these other guys said some over-the-top unbelievable stuff.
In seriousness, of course there is going to be a range of expressions of dismay/loathing regarding Bush. Trying to invalidate the bulk of it by pointing to the tail ends won’t fly.
Just putting my 2 cents’ worth in.
We have what is sort of a two party system. It is inexact because both parties have to kow tow to the monied interests to maintain their positions. But, skipping that, the parties do have differences. These will always result in an apparent bashing of the ins by the outs. That is what our system is. We present the opposite side, whoever is in.
(unless you are listening to Fox or Rush)
No, need, his Mission was Accomplished*!

Not to mention all flying people.
And everyone named Theodore.
I couldn’t agree more. Please change it to ‘despite the fact that I am Canadian’.
I think we’re either the felt pads on the underside of the board, or else the crusty remnants of last month’s nachos stuck in the crevices of the knight’s mane.
There should be MORE Bush bashing. But for things like trampling on our liberty, making American citizens into targets all over the world, losing the trust of our friends, spending our treasury like there’s no tomorrow, partnering government with private businesses, fighting wars against wraiths like drugs and terror — that sort of thing. But not for things like accepting trinkets of appreciation from private citizens, pronouncing “nuclear” like Jimmy Carter, or thinking a couple of minutes before reacting to unprecedented disaster in a room full of kids.
