I used to like them (NOT the one Kalhoun linked to!) They’re nice if you’re small-busted with a very small ribcage (which I am). A little too juvenile for my current level of sophistication, though (she said, adjusting combat boots and hiking up fishnets…)
I can’t bear to look at them, let alone even think about wearing one. I’m quite happy with www.dressinabag.com or a cami top with built in shelf bra and a pair of not-too-short shorts. Just so you know.
I’ve only ever found one Empire waisted dress that doesn’t make me look pregnant (since I’m not), and I wore it to junior prom last year. I think it was more tapered and that’s why it works.
Count me in as a hater. I’m short and I have big hips, and those dresses do nothing to help that. Funny, though, the dress I ended up choosing for the wedding is high-waisted. Dang, I never thought about that. I’m so contradictory sometimes.
Anyway, 99% of the time I’m a hater.

That one definantly makes me look pregnant like you were saying… it all depends if it is gathered under the bust or not… I don’t really like the gathered ones either (at least not until I actually am pregnant!) but some of the girls really do like the style. These are all dresses for the hippie girls though, and so not very main stream…
I did just see a renaissance wedding dress pattern like you were talking about & it looked oh so horrible!! It didn’t even cinch in under the bust but just hung… I wish I could find the picture.
