This might be TMI, but when I had my last yeasty beast, my doc told me to put the yogurt where it will do the most good, right on the infected yeasty beast  so I did, and by george it worked…hope you feel better soon. (sorry if this was tmi, but it did work).
I must be slipping, I have a yogurt joke and I didn’t use it earlier.
The word yogurt literally translates to “the cream cheese of Hades”, at least according to the Reverend Billy C. Wirtz.
It looks like it’s the tablets for me…I’ve been on a clear liquid diet for the past couple of days, not by choice, but because of an upset tummy. I’m still going to try some of those dip recipes, and maybe using yogurt for sour cream.
However, I said it in my OP, and I’ll say it again…I don’t like yogurt mixed with fruit. This includes smoothies. Yogurt is SOUR and no amount of sugar or fruit is going to make it taste sweet to me. Besides which, I’m limited in the amount of sugar/fruit I can have each day. I save my fruit exchanges for something I really like!
One more idea, although you might find it a bit drastic:
Most of the beneficial bacteria your body needs are in the large intestine. If you dislike the taste of yogurt, is there any reason you couldn’t put the active yogurt culture in the … um … other end?
1 onion thinly sliced
2 T olive oil
2 cups chicken broth (make your own, use boullion cubes or canned)
2 cups yogurt
dash of ground cardamom
Heat oil in saucepan, add onions and cook over med heat until soft and translucent. Add chicken stock, bring to a boil. Allow to cool. Add yogurt and heat gently. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Sprinkle a dash of the cardomom on each serving.
This tastes good on hot days as the soup seems best when it is only slightly warm. Be careful when heating the yogurt can separate if warmed too fast.
Also,
Yogurt Chicken
6 Chicken breasts cut into 1 inch chunks (You may use more or less as desired)
2 T salt
1/4 cup lemon juice
2 cups yogurt
1 t garlic powder
1 t ginger
1 t surry
1 t chile powder
1 t tarrogon
Mix together salt and lemon juice. Marinate chicken in this solution for 30 minutes. Mix together yogurt and spices. Remove chicken from lemon juice/salt, pat dry and place in yogurt mixture. Allow to marinate overnight in refridgerator. Skewer chicken pieces and grill, this will take a bit longer than usual since the chicken and yogurt are cold.
Finally, Greek cookbooks have recipes for cakes with yogurt, usually lemon is the primary flavor. I find the acidity of lemon cuts the yogurt flavor, I am with you yogurt and fruit = bad.
An update: We had some mock Stroganoff tonight (we used leftover roast beef) and we used yogurt instead of sour cream. We were careful to take the sauce off the heat before stirring in the yogurt. Success! It tasted GREAT! AND we can have this dish more often now, since the yogurt is fatfree.
We’re still going to try some of the other nonsweet yogurt recipes.
I third the idea of acidophilous pills or powder. While I really love yogurt, my GYN recommended this to me when I had similar problems. It worked pretty well as long as I remembered to take it. FTR she said I needed to use the poweder cuz it helped more than the pills.
