Yes, he’s nearly three times my age. Yes, his sinuses have made the Lake Wobegon monologues all but unlistenable for most people I know. Yes, he bears a striking resemblance to some sort of bridge troll.
But I’m completely in love with him.
Perhaps it’s just that hearing his voice on the radio every week makes me a little less homesick (I just moved out of the midwest for the first time a few months ago). Maybe it’s his bitter loner style in his blog (yes, I’ve read his blog). Regardless, after years and years of listening to A Prairie Home Companion every week, I’m finally acknowledging my complete adoration.
Dang - I feel like I should be writing this to Savage Love or something. Anybody share my affection for old Lutheran guys?
Hi, my name is lauramarlane and I…well, I love him, too! There, I said it! And I happen to really like the sound of his voice. I saw him many years ago when they were touring with A Prairie Home Companion and it was wonderful.

Just goes to show ya’, where there’s life there’s hope. I don’t have a radio show, but I pretty much satisfy the rest of the above criteria.
Just goes to show, a radio show and a few Norwegian bachelor farmer jokes can carry a man a long way. It as the penguin joke that made you swoon, wasn’t it? (“Who says I’m not wearing a tuxedo?”)
I grew up in central WI, and I get homesick listening to PHC sometimes, too, dontcha know.
An old friend of mine travelled with him on tour. She was married to someone on the crew. Don’t want to give away too much.
She said that he was very quiet around the rest of the group. But the next night during his performance, she would find little bits and pieces of the groups’ conversations showing up in his comments. He just seemed to absorb everything.
At a book signing, I had a chance to speak a little Danish with him – long enough to discover that we were familiar with the same beautiful small town on the sea. He was very, very pleasant.
No crush here, but I like him and his show, as well as the books of his that I’ve read thus far. I like how his website has seemingly every episode archived.
