I mean, yeah, he’s a nice guy and, like, actually competent and stuff but…
I was off work all last week with some kind of virus, which I am going to call “the flu” even though it wasn’t exactly.
This morning, my boss calls me and asks, “Do you have a doctor’s excuse to come back to work tomorrow? You were gone more than three days.”
I said, "I looked in the employee manual and it said you didn’t have to have one until you missed five days "(I had only been scheduled for four.)
Him “No, it’s three days. Do you have one?”
Me: “I can get one”.
Him “Okay, get one.”
So, I decided to go to a nearby Doc-In-The-Box for the note. I was talking to my mother and told her, “It’s a good thing he called, I would have gone in tomorrow and been turned around and sent home. John’s a good man.”
A few minutes later, the phone rings again, Mom answers it.
“No, this is her mother, she’s right here.” They talk for a few minutes and she hangs up. It was my boss. Seems he had gone to Personnel and asked, and I was right, you don’t need a doctor’s release to return to work until you’ve missed five consecutive days.
Now, really, how many bosses do you know would actually stir their ass to go all the way up the stairs to the Personnel office to ask the question?
So, anyway, I have a good boss. Since it looks like I’m going to have to work a part-time job for at least a few months while I’m getting my massage therapy career off the ground, (spa is set to open in February) I think I’ll keep him a while.
