I have a grammar question.

Not to nit-pick or anything, but is this correct usage?
From the standard SDMB email notifice;
“- in the General Questions forum of Straight Dope Message Board.”
Should that read “- in the General Questions forum of the Straight Dope Message Board.” or not? Or are both correct, as so often happens in our glorious language.
My question isn’t about the SDMB, but about the statement itself.
Peace,
mangeorge

You’re right. They screwed up that one.

The name in the banner headline (orange on blue) at the top of the screen is THE STRAIGHT DOPE (I’m not shouting, it’s all caps in the banner) so that is what they should have used. I think.

And what’s so bad about a nit-pick now and then to cause a little tension in the “big picture” crowd?

It all depends on what the name of the Forum is. If it is “Straight Dope Message Board”, then it is wrong to add “The” since proper nouns do not take an article. Now as I look at the top of this page, it says, “The straight Dope” and then “Straight Dope Message Board”, so it looks to me as if the article should be omitted. But the other view is tenable.
