I have a new computer - help me pick a game

I just got a notebook computer with decent specs. Previously I had a MAC, and a PSP. So I have little experience with the current crop of computer games.

Help me pick one game that I could not play before. I am not interested in many blood-and-gore types of games, and don’t have a lot of free time for super-complex games like Skyrim or WoW. I might be interested in a superhero game like City of Heroes, but that’s probably it for RPG interest for me. I like sports games; I got Madden for the PSP every year but this one. If there was a good horse racing game that would trump everything else, but I haven’t heard of one.

What do you experts suggest, given these somewhat lame restrictions I have placed upon you? Feel free to ask for more info if you need it.

How about Batman: Arkham City? I haven’t gotten it myself yet because I’m still too busy exploring Skyrim, but it looks really good and it’s hard to see how you could go wrong with a 92% average score. http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/batman-arkham-city

I suggest you take a look at Steam if you don’t already have it, but don’t buy anything yet; scope out the games you want and wait a couple of weeks for everything to go on sale for Christmas.
