On April 4 I start orientation for a job as a nurse tech in surgery. The orientation is full time for three weeks, then I’ll switch to evenings, about two shifts per week.
Scary stuff, this. I shadowed for a few hours, and there is going to be a ton to learn, and I HATE being the new one who doesn’t know where the damned mopheads are, so I’ll have to learn fast.
I get to wear scrubs and bootie things and one of those lovely shower-cap hair cover doohickies too. I’m gonna be So Official.
Hopefully this will help me solve one of my life mysteries: What I Want To Do Next. I think I’d like to go back to school and get a tech degree, maybe in radiology. With luck, I’ll get the lowdown on some of the different degree areas from people who actually WORK in them, and that will help me choose a field.
So…if you come to the hospital for surgery, I might be mopping your room after! If I can find the mopheads, at least.
