Have you ever heard of such a show? We would only debate things that ‘don’t matter’ (ie no religion, politics, abortion, gay marriage, morals, economics, etc. that you can hear on numerous other shows). I have a feeling there must, of all the pop culture-centered TV shows around, be something like this on TV, but I can’t think of one quite.
It sounds pretty dumb- debating things that don’t matter sounds like something you do when you’re smoking the bong w/ some friends of yours and arguing about whether it’d be worth marrying Oprah for the life of luxury or not :D- but I think if I can come up with some slightly better-than-stoner topics, and if I stay away from celeb gossip for the most part (or totally , I hope), and if I’m not loud and obnoxious and crude like a lot of young DJs are, that maybe I can attract a certain demographic of ‘chill’ listeners.
Would you listen? Topics I would argue with ‘panelists’ and callers, for instance, might include:
I wish people would stop considering Tarantino a ‘great’ man or a ‘prophet’ :smack:- he’s a great filmmaker, but it ends there
Debating whether a movie is good or not (no spoilers)
Whether the death of PC games is nigh
Okay, so basically most of it will boil down to pop culture and subjective opinions of certain things.
Wow, how did you do that? Your posts are exactly 24 hours apart.
Actually, your idea might be fun. Sort of like Politically Incorrect, but with fluffy topics and a moderator that would actually enforce some rules. See if some famous people can actually defend a point with a little rigor.
If it were on TV though, there’d probably have to be some farm-animal reproductive-organ eating.
I used to listen to “Dennis Prager” back when I lived in LA. He was a Centrist-Conservative radio host, it seems like he’s very conservative now.
He would pepper his topics with non-political, non-religious stuff every once in a while.
I don’t know why I remember this, but he put a minor topic he argued with his wife about. The debate was this: You go to an all you can eat buffet. On the way out you pick up a pastry. I think his wife thought it was wrong, because the rules of the buffet are that you can have all you can eat but they have to be eaten in the restaurant. He argued that he was going to eat it anyways so the location was inconsequential.
It got pretty heated, and a lot of callers were calling in for the first time. It’s one thing to weigh in with your opinion on foreign policy, but everyone feels they can weigh in on fluff.
I was really fun. Can it work? I think it can. The draw of the SD is pointless debate. Hell you can mine the SD for an entire seasons worth of material.
It could be argued that the stuff in GD is often pointless, too. But fun. In a differnt way. I think it might be a fun topic, especially if you got quick-witted guests instead of generic celebrities.
But it **does matter ** which way the toilet paper is put on the roll, and whether you butter the salty or unsalty side of the saltine, or whether you staple horizontally, vertically or at a perfect 45 degree angle, or traditional cotton vs. spandex NFL pants.
gigi: over the top, unsalty, 45 deg., traditional cotton, idefyyoutoanswerotherwise
