I have found a good successor to Bloom County....

Well, on Heath’s recommendation, I went over to the web site and checked out a month’s worth of Liberty Meadows (yes, there’s Finagle, paragon of industry, keeping his shoulder to the wheel as usual). And, the verdict is … just not that funny. And not that well drawn either. There’s more to drawing an attractive woman than giving her large breasts. Brandy never shows any expression. And she’s always drawn from the same weird three quarter profile perspective.

Compare with any of the women from Bloom County — Lola or the school teacher (forgot her name). They were hot. Candidates for the “Which cartoon characters would you sleep with?” threads.

Now that I think of it… The ability to draw hot babes AND goofy animals. Berke Breathed was a genius!

I’m rather fond of http://www.goats.com myself. If anyone does go to check it out, I recommend you start from the beginning in the archives. It can be pretty hit-or-miss, but has some truly fine moments. The Panties of Potency lives in infamy in my mind.

Nothing will EVER replace Bloom County. Ever.

Nope Bloom County can never be replaced. None of these comics contain the biting political satire, the topicalness of Bloom County, while at the same time contianing the irrelevness, the whimsicalness of it.

The closest I think are BoonDocks, and the second Comic by Berkeley… damn, I can’t remember the name.

And have I mentioned the Crack’d Off’s cat, Outside Kitty, looks like Bill the Cat.

I retract any and all statements that it will “replace” Bloom County. I only want to say its in the same vien. Now get a fucking life and stop with the stupid emails over and over, they are now forwarding to the trash anyway.

Jesus Christ, some people here need to seriously grow up

hey dude… Report that shit to the mods. Whoever’s doing it, if they are a member, should be banned.
And on a topical note.

Get Fuzzy is carried in the local paper… come on… who couldn’t laugh at this

and what was the one with the Dennis Rodman, Bill Gates, and the ferret? That one was pretty funny too.

Oh I gotta agree with that Get Fuzzy is great. If my cat could talk, she would be just like that cat. I now have a dog (this is new news, she is 4 months old and is a cross of terrier and a little bit of chihuahua and her name is Sassy) and Sassy remind me of Satchel in that she is naive and way too friendly.

oldscratch The comic strip you are thinking about is Free For All by Brett Merhar. The LATimes used to carry it and when they dropped it I would read it on the Web, now it is no longer there. It was very funny and very weird and Mr. Merhar had a great sense of humor. He actually did a strip about the LATimes dropping his strip. It was great.

I like Liberty Meadows. Not as good as Bloom County, but we take what we can get.

Frank Cho’s real masterpiece is *University [sup]2[/sup] *, the strip that he did during college. Frank was much funnier as a duck than as a human, and Leslie was much funnier when he was a giant talking lima bean (I always found it ironic that the vegetable had the most expressive face of any of the cast.)

Mr. Cho had to tone it down for national syndication, and that took the edge off of the humor. *University [sup]2[/sup] * is available in trade paperback at most comic shops, or can be ordered through the website.
