I don’t know how practical it is, nor if it’s already being done, but I think that it just might calm things down over there. Of course, it wouldn’t happen over night, but considering how long things have been a mess over there, a few more years is going to be an eye blink in history.
America should immediately begin doing it in Iraq as well. Again, it’d take a long time for it to work (if it did), but I think that it’d go a long way in helping to ensure that Iraq really did become a democracy.
What we need to do, is dub Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood and Sesame Street into the various local languages and broadcast them there. (I realize that Mr. Rogers is no longer with us, but there’s some 40 years of tape that can be used.) If nothing else, by showing these programs over there, the US would help disspell some of it’s “evil ogre” image in the Mid-East.
