You should have played a rogue from release until… oh, sometime around when Blackwing Lair got released (times may be off) all warlocks were free kills for all rogues. God was that frustrating, getting demolished by a rogue 3 levels below me with horrible gear.
Wow. Thanks for the replies all. Maybe I will take a week off, then come back to try some different things. Now I just need a 1000 gold for a mount. Maybe I can seel my body on ebay?
Me Too on much of the above … level 70 play requires either or both of
1/ a solid guild that runs reliable scheduled raids, and which has people on most of the time
2/ a bunch of good friends (who may or may not be in your guild) you can 5man with - rep runs, instances or quests (as most L70 quests are 5man)
PuGs are even more iffy at L70 than they were on the way up. I’ve had a few good ones, but very very few.
Join me on Emerald Dream horde, my guild transferred to another server and I’m lonely because all my friends ended up on PvE realms or quit! (I don’t even gank, I help the enemy I just like the oh shi- factor).
Or, you know, not.
Or a warlock, though if it’s a hunter it’s jsut becuase you’re a hunter, if you’re a Warlock it’s because you OBVIOUSLY didn’t hit the built in “I win” button Blizz gave us.
So be fair, in 5-mans if you wipe it’s most often the fault of over-zealous DPS.
I rarely if ever get aggro. But yeah I understand what you mean.
What spec are you? I’d guess demo. I’d think playing a lock is terribly boring if you don’t push it just to the brink of getting aggro at all times. I know my groups sometimes got annoyed, but a hectic fight is more fun.
Speak for yourself. Nothing annoys me more than having to chase after the mob I’m tanking because of a crit-happy mage*, especially if it happens repeatedly. Hectic fights tend to cause more downtime, and I much prefer a quick, smooth run.
Actually, there probably are things that annoy me more, I just haven’t run into them lately.
*Said mage switched to frost for about two days, then back to his old build because he ‘wasn’t doing as much damage’. You know what else you weren’t doing as much? Dying!
Affliction, I’m really good at managing my aggro and knowing how (and when) to pre-dot trash mobs (and what to use on bosses). Well for someone who doesn’t believe in threatmeters at least.
Don’t chase. If I pull aggro it’s my problem.
You don’t enjoy trying to do a speed run? Try doing shattered halls without a mage or rogue, I guarantee the tank’s not going to have aggro the whole time, but having 2 guys chain feared, one seduced, and dotting up the target is fun as hell and they’ll all be running towards me when CC breaks.
In my opinion danger runs are more fun than speed runs. There is nothing I loved more than:
Me (a warlock)
My friend (a shadow priest)
Another random warlock
Two rogues
Running scholo pre-BC (post nerf though so take that for what you will). That really required some quick thinking.
I looooove affliction. Apparently Destro is the way to go when you start getting tier 6 gear, but my guild was stuck on Vashj when I quit so I stuck with the build I thought was more fun. 41/7/13 or something like that. I can’t recall, it’s been a while.
Ugh, talking about WoW makes me miss it. I don’t have the time to raid anymore though, damn.
I don’t mind trying to do speed runs, or even having feared mobs around (Hell, I’ve done plenty SH–I don’t mind losing aggro when there’s 7+ mobs, and I trust my guildmates to be able to handle things), but I’ve always found that the people who push their DPS too hard slow the group down by causing agro problems. Sometimes the fastest way to do something is slow and steady.
Most of what you just described falls under CC, and yeah if you’re doing that you’d better damn well be able to handle it…but I’m talking about people just plain old over-agroing. (I’m also a high-end raider, and we’ve had a lot of problems lately with people focusing too much on doing damage and not enough on everything else–nothing like a 1% wipe on Leo because some T5 raider doesn’t know how to let the tank get agro after a threat wipe.)
To the OP:
I think you’ve failed to realise the purpose of games like WoW. Instead of thinking of it as a game, instead think of it as a chat engine like MSN Messenger that happens to include some other stuff you can do while waiting for other people to answer.
There is no end to tha game, and any successes there are are ultimately pointless since there is no end–they just lead you to more of the same.
So if you haven’t found a group of people you like shooting the breeze with then, ultimately, you’re screwed until you’ve fixed that.
If you go to a roleplaying server, meeting people can be slightly easier since you’re expected to go start chatting people up if you’re in Stormwind. Though you have to do it in character which is either an added element of stuff to do or lame-o depending on how you choose to view it.
Yes, there is something very satisfying about a really well executed kill.
Definitely. Raiding is way higher stakes too, that’s not a time for shenanigans. Well, in MC there was. Me and a group of like 7 other guys pretty much always played a drinking game on those. Anybody in the group dies, take a drink, the raid wipes, finish your drink. Random drop, take a drink. Good times.
Oh man, I love that button!
(Nivea, 70 'lock on Azgalor. We’ve got a fun guild if you’re looking for a home.)
You. Rock.
Just had to say that.
And Jragon, sounds like you’re a PvP-type. I don’t do PvP… Have considerably slower reactions than most, and its a major hindrance. Otherwise, love to join ya…
Tanks have broken my traps a thousand percent more than DPS classes have. Doesn’t always result in a wipe, but it’s still a good indicator of boneheaded meat wall mentality.
In 5-mans, you wipe when your tank can’t tank, or someone pulls adds. Sometimes you die because a healer got distracted, or because someone hasn’t done the encounter before and doesn’t know what to expect. DPS being overzealous ranks a distant, distant last.
I don’t do PvP, i jsut like the PvP servers due to my masochism (I don’t fight back when people try to gank me) ;).
You’re blaming the can’t tank part on the tank, I think it’s ofter because of the DPS classes. There’s no way in hell healers cause more wipes in 5-mans than DPS. Doing a heroic, if you pull aggro, that’s you getting 1-shotted and then the group wiping because you can’t kill things fast enough.
