I will gladly bow to Mr. Blue Sky and Tony’s (et al) recollections of the episode.
I don’t know why I remembered it that way or maybe that’s just the impression I got from the line of people waiting for the observation deck. Did he shove somebody out of the way to get to the bathroom or something? That could be what made me think of it that way.
Anyway, I am relieved to know it’s not the way I remembered it.
Without sounding callous, i’m glad i’ve got this episode on tape. It is a very funny episode, although watching it will never be the same again.
Whilst they pull that episode of The Simpsons, they may as well pull most episodes of Family Guy off the air too - we all know that Stewie is some sort of evil genius and future international terrorist!
FWIW, I was watching some FG on tape last night and the first episode on the tape happened to be the one where Lois became an air hostess … it was kinda weird, I must say.
That’s it, i’m off to find that Simpsons tape … gotta get the icky feelings out of my system.
I know there’s an episode with people waiting in line to jump off of some building, and I thought it was the WTC one. It may have been trimmed for time (an age old favorite censorship tool) when shown on re-runs. The sensible thing to do would be to go to one of those sites where tehy have complete scripts for each episode and check.
Also, I agree that the episode should be shown. Intact.
That would be “Hello Gutter, Hello Fadder” in which Homer bowls a perfect game, but is upset when he is no longer the flavor of the week. He goes to the top of the Springfield State Building where there’s a line of would-be jumpers. He jumps, but changes his mind in mid fall. Thankfully, Otto is bungee jumping and Homer grabs hold of him and manages to survive.
There’s an episode of Family Guy(sick show!!!) that has a whole bunch of New Yorkers invading Quahog for the Fall and Peter calls them all mean names, I wonder if they’ll cut this show? I hope not, I love the scene in the bar where quagmire goes up to a ‘woman’:
Quagmire: “Hey lady(something like that, i can’t remember word for word), how 'bout you and me go for a ride?”
Woman (in a manly voice): “Sure”
Q:“Whoa! Transvestite!(starts to walk away)Hold on, pre-op or post-op?”
‘W’:“Pre-op”
Q:Eew.(walks back to table)You’re right, Peter, this place sucks."
Should we also avoid airing any and all movies and TV shows that make reference to the Stock Market Crash of 1929? The image of suddenly-bankrupt investors jumping off of skyscrapers is pretty much standard in all of those.
What makes you think that the producers, or the writers, or anyone associated with making the show, didn’t know the difference? All that that line proves is that the character didn’t know the difference. I don’t recall that character (only seen two episodes of Family Guy: Life’s tough without a TV), but he’s not portrayed as being the brightest bulb, is he?
And I also want to say that it is absolutely ridiculous to want to go back and censor any evidence that those towers ever existed. “Pretend it didn’t happen and it’ll go away” - isn’t that the mindset that got us into this mess?
Well, Peter Griffin (the main character on the show) is extremely stupid, but I don’t know about Quagmire. He’s probably not too bright either, since he seems to be spending most of his life fulfilling what I imagine is a goal to have sex with every woman on the planet.
Thank you Mr. Blue Sky. I’m just lazy, I guess. Did you go to an archive site or just recall? If it’s a good one I’d like to get the address. Again, because i’m lazy.
I’m pretty sure he said transexual. I tend to notice when people get the two mixed up, and was watching that episode with a friend, so I know I would have pointed it out. I looked for scripts, but couldn’t find one easily.
Oh, and I think the Simpsons ep was brilliant, and should be kept in tact, FWIW.
