Drugs? check
Sex? check (albeit offstage. Bring it back onstage and it’s doubleplus good)
Violence? whoooey, check!
Rampaging psycho women? double check!
Yeah, I think modern audiences can relate to The Bacchae quite well. They’ll probably want to see more of the action though, so I foresee vignettes wherein actors act out the story the two dudes are talking about. And spandex. Lots of spandex.*
*Not because it’s good or even relevant, but because college directors seem to share a spandex fetish.
I went to school today, solely to see if the cast list was up yet
The cast list for The Bacchae wasn’t up yet, but they did have the cast list for Of Mice and Men. The other girl hanging out in the Green Room with me landed the only female part in the play! She was extremely nervous during auditions, but I had a good feeling she would do well. I was very impressed; she had to compete with 4 other women for that part!
I was interested in seeing who got parts in Of Mice and Men, because most of the people who auditioned for that play also auditioned for The Bacchae. If they get a part in Of Mice and Men, they can’t very well be in The Bacchae at the same time (the two plays have overlapping rehearasal schedules). If they opt to be in Of Mice and Men, then my chances of getting a part in The Bacchae improve. Many of the genuinely good people at the audition wound up getting parts in Of Mice and Men. This makes me feel very confident that I will get a part.
earnestly hoping I get to play a freaked-out herdsmen whose cattle got mauled to death by psycho women
Not yet, unfortunately. I’ll have to wait until Monday to know for sure. In the meantime, I have a piano recital I have to be at. What a crazy week this has been!
That’s so exciting Incubus! I’m active in my (High) school Drama department and I’m a little intimidated by college-level theatre. The school I’m most interested in features something like 35 plays a year  . And I’m definitely not going to be a Theatre (or English) major- I want to major in Math!
Wow!! That’s a crazy schedule. We did lots of showcases, but only about 6 plays a year (or five plus a one-act festival). Then again, my department was really small. And you’re good at BOTH math and theatre?! That’s just not right.
