To my surprise, I was contacted yesterday by CBC Radio in Saskatchewan, who had a question about deterring woodpeckers. Someone suggested using hot sauce. They came across my first Staff Report (actually a guest report) for the Dope:
The name of the program is Blue Sky, heard weekdays from noon till 2 on CBC Radio 1 in Saskatchewan, 102.5 FM in Regina, 94.1 in Saskatoon, and 540 AM around the province.
When you said 1:30 I thought it a bit odd cuz they usually have a call-in segment after 1.
And on behalf of the majority of the North American continent currently shivering (though right here in Atlanta right this second we have no room to complain but ask again tomorrow), it obviously sucks to be in Panama right now, you lucky so and so.
Trevor Harriet is a regular guest ornithologist. Once a month they have him on, and people call in to report unusual bird sitings and ask for help in identifying that odd-looking bird they’ve seen at their feeder. It’s quite likely that the hot sauce/woodpecker thing was brought up by a caller on yesterday’s show, and Jen followed up on it today by interviewing Colibri. I’m guessing a bit as I didn’t listen either day.
Yes, I was told that the question was brought up on yesterday’s program. They apparently did a web search and found my Staff Report, then contacted me as an “'expert” on birds and chili peppers.
A brush with greatness! Thanks, Colibri. That’s a whole lot more fun than the silly old &^%$ at the oil change place I was just at who was trying desperately to get me interested in the pathetic fact that she was an extra in the Howard Stern movie. (She even dragged her “head shots” out of her car.)
That is so freakin’ cool! You might not know this, Colibri, but CBC radio, while not listened to much, is massively respected in Canada. That’s the big leagues! (Well, for Canada.) I too must find this interview in the archives.
