I just figured it out: dead mice and cooked Brussels sprouts smell the same!

Yuck. One of my colleagues brings in Brussels sprouts for lunch a few times a month, and when she heats them up in the microwave I almost retch. We do laugh about it, but I can barely stand being in the lunch room for more than a minute or two before I have to get out of there. She brought them in a few days ago, and the memory is fresh in my mind.

This morning, I walked into the lunch room and said to myself, “Hey – Stacy must be eating lunch early today! Yuck!” It stunk like Brussels sprouts again. Stacy then walked by and I asked her why she had to torture me twice in a week, and she didn’t know what I was talking about. Then she walked into the room and said, “Oh, it smells like a dead mouse in here.” When I said, “No, it smells like cooked Brussels sprouts!” she admitted that they did produce a similar olfactory sensation.

I figure that either there’s a dead mouse behind the fridge, or Stacy dropped a 'sprout a few days ago and it rolled back there. I’m afraid to check.
