Woo hoo! Mercy owes me $60, apparently. I’ll actually be in Sac in June, so I’m gonna see if I can get that picked up. Will be good drinking money while I’m there…
This is Oregon’s version.
No. You just haven’t yet realised the depth of my laziness. Plus, I hate making phone calls.
Send a letter? Won’t you have to do that when it gets moved to unclaimed, anyway?
Would the Social Security Administration help you out? You can find the Death Index in a bunch of different places online - that ought to get you started. Do you at least know where he died? Most places will release a copy of the death certificate to you, especially if you can document that you are a close relative.
ok so I was bored, plugged in every contact in my phone and about 1/4 of my customer list.
HOLY CRAP
a small group of my customers have about $4K coming
emailed a few friends of mine who have about $1K between them.
Everybody should click on this and see if there’s something out there for them. You never know.
Several years ago, I got $1200 from an old, dead retirement fund at a former campus workplace. Nice!
One note: ignore anything in your snail mail that offers to claim the money for you for a fee. You can claim it on your own. The only fee would go to a notary public because of the documents that are required when you send in the claim.
Just be sure to check if missingmoney.com covers your state - it doesn’t cover the ones that apply to me. I posted the Illinois link which is only “coming soon” on that site. Check your state’s treasurer’s office to see if they have anything on this.
My Ex and I have a joint account somewhere in Kansas that has $14.31 in it, but no interest accured. He and I haven’t spoken since our son died in 2000. I don’t think it’s worth stirring up his current wife.
Australians can search here. Nothing owing to me, though!
I just clicked again and found another claim for almost $200! (This is in addition to the $575 claim I found last year.)
I have no idea how I lost track of this money. It all dates from 18 years ago when I was in college.

That’s different. I like writing letters.
Looks like two of my stepkids, my exhubby#2’s ex-wife, four cousins, and an uncle have some missing money. I’ve emailed them all.
There are good things about having an uncommon surname – like easy missing money searches for the whole famdamily.
Sucks to have a very very common last name, but whoo! $175 from the co-ops I lived in back in school. The college itself owes me another $16, which is kind of funny since I know I was in debt to the college over $800 until quite recently.
I wonder if I can just go to the co-op office and ask them to fork over.
Sorry to bump this thread, but I have a predicament.
I found another website that would like to scam you out of your money by selling you the information on how to get your unclaimed funds. You never have to pay to get this money- you contact the state, prove who you are, and get it for free. So I didn’t actually use the site I found, but it does say the supposed amount you have coming, whereas the state-run website keeps it confidential.
As I said before, I didn’t find any money for myself, but I did find that my best friend has something in his name, with an address that he lived at 15 years ago. When I found his name on the state-run site (through missingmoney.com) he said that if I did all the work to get it, he’d split it with me half and half. Then, the scam site I found says that the amount is $8,000. Best friend says that he is still willing to give me half whatever the amount, if I do the legwork involved.
I have the claim form, and now all I need is a copy of his driver’s license, easily done, and proof that he lived at that address in the past. That’s where my predicament comes in- he only lived there for a year, and it was a somewhat-shady time in his life, and he doesn’t even think he filed taxes that year. The were no marriages, divorces, births, or deaths during that year, he has no paperwork at all from that time, and may not have even changed his address with the DMV. I planned today to get his credit report online and use that- I presume your addresses stay on there forever and maybe that address is on there. Not sure what’s up with that, but I haven’t been able to get his credit report, due to one “error” or another. He’s sticking by his rule that I do all the work, as he’s not entirely sure that the site’s not either a scam or the state looking for him to arrest him and using this as a ruse (never mind that he doesn’t have a warrant and his current DL shows his current address and they could just come get him if they wanted to), even though I’ve assured him that I know all about it and it’s legit. He’s perfectly willing to take steps to get this money, as long as I do all the paperwork and step it out for him, and it’s not too hard.
Does anyone have any ideas as to how to get proof that he lived at that address?
