I just found out my wife thinks Severus Snape is hot

purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Oh, sorry, we were talking about Severus Snape, right? Alan Rickman = hot. He caught my attention in Die Hard and hasn’t let it go since.

A fellow employee mentioned that Rickman was attractive in Die Hard. I asked if it was his being in control, and she denied it.
So he’s pretty, or cool, or you like the way he shot Mr. Takagi in the head, or what?

At the time, I described him to a friend as ‘hot, in an international terrorist sort of way.’ She gave me a :dubious:.

In thinking back to it, with some extra years of seasoning, I think it was his charisma, his dark intelligence, his smoulder, his accent (come to think of it, I’ve been married to a German for more than 13 years now – maybe he had a greater impact on me than I realized!), the danger of him, and yes, he was pretty and cool, too! I won’t deny that his being in charge was a big part of how compelling the character was.

But I’m not so much attracted to the headshots. :stuck_out_tongue:

I keep trying to formulate an opinion on the meaning of that song, but when I watch the video, I forget the question.

As for why he was cool in Die Hard: Didn’t you guys also think he was cool? The intelligence, the sharp suit, the voice…damn. I’ve hated that smug bastard Willis ever since.

Yippie Ki yay.

I disliked Willis before the movie so it wasn’t hard to automatically sympathize with the “bad guy”. I think Willis was just jealous of Rickman’s wonderful head of hair.

I’ve been thinking about it, and I believe the deeper meaning of the video is this: the lead singer thought to herself: ‘You know what my next video needs? More Alan Rickman!’

Smart girl. I’m considering starting up as a pop singer so that I can make precisely this sort of artistic decision.

I have read the last book and I read the same post and thought, “Wow, that’s not what I got at all” so perhaps you haven’t been spoiled (and I guess I’ll reread it).

It doesn’t vex me enough to find quotes in the books and sort it all out, but I’ve definitely felt that the ages in HP don’t come out quite right. I particularly think this with Dumbledore relative to other characters.

As for Rickman/Snape being hot…I am a Rickman fan, but don’t find Snape to be his most alluring role.

Am I alone in having thought when reading the books prior to the release of any movies but when I was aware movies would be made, that Alan Rickman might be a good Sirius Black?

That makes sense, as Alan Rickman and Gary Oldman are essentially interchangeable.

(That’s not to say they aren’t both terrific actors - it’s just that Hollywood tends to cast them in the exact same roles).

poor mr. willis had to spray his head during that movie. all the bad guys had wonderful hair!

Alan Rickman as Snape: Hubba.

Jason Isaacs as Lucius Malfoy: Hubba, too.

But seriously, with Rickman it is at least partly the voice. That man could read the phone book and I’d pay to see it.

And after finishing all seven Harry Potter books, I’d say that Snape was definitely one of the most interesting and complex characters in the books, along with Dumbledore.

LorieSmurf and Wile E, I cannot thank you enough for this link. It’s fascinating. Whoa, baby!

Yippe Ki Yay!

The two sexiest voices in the world belong to Alan Rickman and John Malkovich. And they’re both easy on the eyes, too, especially young Alan Rickman.

I watched the most recent movie the other day, and yes, Rickman has a voice that makes me melt. It reaches depths that few humans ever can; he probably communicates with whales and stuff.

I have no idea why I’m debating this, but have you ever listened to Orson Welles?

The wife is a big Alan Rickman fan. Has been ever since Die Hard.

Oh, man!

nahhh, number one best voice is george takei.

I’ve seen a couple of his movies - his voice never struck me as anything special.
