I just got a bib for the 2011 Boston Marathon

Forecast is for tailwinds of around 15 mph. PR time!

Best of luck.

PR time by definition, it’s my first one.

I’m well rested, and have everything laid out for tomorrow. The forecast is fantastic (although a little warm for those of us who start in the last wave). I’m looking to enjoying the day.

Just out of random curiosity, why is it that the Boston Marathon has become the quintessential Marathon?

It’s the world’s oldest annual marathon and was pretty much the only well known marathon run in the US until the running boom in the 70s.

ETA:Also the qualifying standards.

I hope Telemark doesn’t actually see this tonight (if so, get to bed!), but best wishes for a good race.

Oh, I’m back online. I got calf cramps around mile 16 which played havoc with the hills and especially the last 5 miles. I finished in 4:38:01, not quite my 4:30 goal but still respectable and the experience was fantastic. I do need to figure out the cramping for runs over 13 miles, this has been an ongoing issue.

Boston is amazing - there are people pretty much the entire 26 mile course. The crowds are excited, vocal, and creating. The Wellesley Scream Tunnel comes at a perfect time, and the fans on the Newton Hills are second to none. I managed to see and be seen by nearly a dozen friends along the way.

More later!

Day 1 of my recovery.

Feet are sore and going down stairs is interesting but that will all fade. I wore my Boston Marathon 2011 jacket with pride today and I’ve gotten a huge amount of support and congrats from runners that I respect and look up to. I feel like I’m a member of a new fraternity, not one I was elected to but one I earned.

Congratulations! It sounds like a tremendous experience.

Excellent job.

Congratulations Telemark. It is not easy to do anything for over 4.5 hours, let alone run.

I also ran Boston. I agree the crowds are amazing, as is the whole city, really. It is amazing how supportive the vast majority of the population is. So, if any of you Boston Dopers were there, thank you.
