I Just Got Dsl!!!!!

Man, what is it with posters today, or is my mind just in the gutter?

To address the Ds !! issue:

The board software does not allow ALLCAPS in thread titles. I knew that but was so excited about getting my DSL set up last night that I negelected to take that in consideration when starting the thread. I should have separated the letters with a space or “-”.

Oh, and swampy, we don’t need no internet to get pornographic

____ sucking lips?

I’m sorry.

I’ve always wanted dsl. They never had it in my area before. Now where I’m living they only offer one internet package: this hideously slow dial up one with limited access: 90 hours per month for $30. $3 for each additional hour. The connection sucks too, it crashes endlessly.
Suuposedly, they will be offering dsl in like August or so, but then again they said that last august as well…

Count me as another who can’t DSL where she lives.

Ivylad tried. We’re too far out for any service.

So, at home, I read a book while I’m on the home computer, waiting for pages to load…

:frowning:

Count me among the folks that thought it said “I got Ds!!!”

But from its place in the gutter, my mind thought someone was going to brag (in great detail, hopefully) about their big, new, post-enhancement-surgery BREASTS!!

Sigh…I guess it’s cool you got DSL (also, now that I see who posted the OP, it probably suits you better than a big pair o’ titties).

Congrats! I got my SBC/Yahoo DLS installation package in the mail yesterday. I put in the disc, and (dramatic pause) “Your 32 MB memory is not sufficient for DSL. 64 MB is required and 128 MB is recommended” Ugh. So now I have to add memory to my PC, which I’ve never done before. Does anyone have any advice? I was planning on going to Best Buy tonight and seeing if they could talk me through it. (Homebrew, let me know if you mind the hijack and I’ll open a new thread)

Thanks,
Pash (still stuck on dial-up)

Make and model? Some mainboards require specific memory configurations or proprietary formats, like Compaq, for instance. Others can use less expensive generic RAM sticks.

You’re still ahead of me, I’ve ordered it three times and they haven’t sent it yet.

From my System Properties:
Dell Windows 95 PC
Dell x86 Family 6 Model 3 Stepping 4
AT/AT Compatible
32,308 KB RAM

I also just upgraded to Windows 2000, if that makes any difference.

Thanks,
Pash

That’s not quite enough information. Here, try this. It’s a freeware program you can dowload that will identify your mainboard among other things. Once I know that I can find out what RAM configuration you need.

Shit! You’re talkin’ about some geeky 'puter hookup. I thought you just got a cool 4WD diesel powered truck.

Clicks mouse and waits while 56K modem connection slowly grinds away

I don’t know, your thread didn’t load any faster than any of the other threads. What’s the big deal.

I’m going to get me some cable modem real soon.

All these people with Verizon DSL and not one of you bought it from me!?!?! Sheesh how about supporting a doper now and then? I work on commision ya know?

From here on in, any dopers that want Verizon DSL, let me know.

[sub]disclaimer: There will be no doper-discount but lots of friendly service[/sub]

Ok, Pashnish, [url=http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.asp?Mfr%2BProductline=Dell%2BDimension+XPS+Series&mfr=Dell&model=Dimension+XPS+D+Series&submit=Go]here you go.** Those prices are high, but there’s enough info there for you to find the RAM you need elsewhere.

D’oh!. :smack:

Thanks, Q.E.D.!

Can you tell if I need to get the EEC or non-EEC? If not, how can I find out?

Pash

I would pull the 32 that’s in there now, and buy, say two 64s. that way you won’t need to worry about matching them with what’s in there already. EEC will perform slightly better, but really with your system, it’s not that much of an issue.
