I just got my Creative DAP Jukebox III!

And I have this horrible feeling that I’ve stuck the battery in the wrong way round.

The thing works off the mains power supply and I am impressed with the musc! (may have a lot to do with the fact that I have some very good headphones and I am playing the right music)

I don’t normally do stupid things like insert batteries the wrong way round (having said that. I did fry one of my USB ports a while ago, by inserting a cable in upside down) but today I was excited to get my jukebox a day early so I was in a rush.

I inserted the battery, it was in the way of the cover, this made me suspect it was in the wrong way round, I tried like hell to get it out. That bugger is in there forever!

So I decided to plug the thing into the mains. It worked. Then I decided that maybe the battery is in the right way round afterall. I gave it a firm push, and it clicked in, allowing the cover to fit.

Then I looked at the instructions. They show that I am supposed to see a little battery symbol if the battery is recharging. I don’t see it.
Does anyone who owns one of these things a) know if it is possible to insert the battery the wrong way round? b) know if the thing is supposed to work from the mains if the battery is inserted incorrectly? and c) know how the bloody hell to get the battery out!?
If I have done the stupid of the century, all is not lost, because 90 percent of my using of this thing will be mains powered anyway.

I just managed to get it out, with a kitchen knife and a penknife. By doing so I was able to confirm that I had in fact, inserted it the wrong way round. (it went in so easily!)

Shame on you creative, for not making your product complete brainless idiot proof.

Absolutely friggin clueless !

Is it too late to send you to Iraq cos you sure frighten the hell out of me …

Here goes…

When the Jukebox arrived I had had a few shots of whiskey (it helps me sleep. And I work nights). If I had not been drinking I probably would have stuck the battery in the wrong way anyay (it is by no means clear, physically/ and in the instructions, which way round the battery goes) and [Not drinking] I probably would not have had the guts to try to get the battery out. So I would have been stuck with a device that I can only use with the mains power supply.

As it happens - I was drinking. I had the guts (or stupidity if you prefer) to attempt to remove the incorrectly inserted battery. That attempt was successful, and I now have a fully functional creative DAP jukebox 3,

What it boils down to - I trust myself so absolutely with technology, that I am willing to use ‘kitchen knife’ and ‘pen knife’ to ‘fix’ a roughly £300 device when drunk.

On this particular occasion - the trust was well placed.
