I just got some Kopi Luwak Coffee - boy am I in for an animal treat!

I just got a bag of this kopi luwak coffee. I good friend of the family sent it to us. I hope it’s good, if I hadn’t gotten this at 7pm I’d be having a cup! Can’t wait for the morning. Anyone ever have this stuff? Cat poop coffee, I can’t wait!

Lucky!

Here’s a recent thread.

Another.

Mine.

There are more with “luwak” as the search term. I mention these for background and further discusion, not to derail your thread. I do hope you’ll describe it for us, particularly because one of my cats has colonitis and I’m having to do all the clean up, so the idea of something wonderful and fragrant coming out an animal’s butt would be a refreshing change of pace.

Well, it’s…nice. I was expecting to be blown away. And in reality this morning I put it in a french press and had a cup with no-fat cream and cane sugar. The main thing was the lack of acidity. NO spark on the back of the throat, otherwise, the $116. a pound I think is outrageous. Great gift though. I guess for the glamour that comes with a $100 pound of coffee it’ll make a good conversation piece when we have guests.

Dave Barry’s column on luwak coffee is hilarious.

This is like that Night Gallery episode where one person’s Heaven is another person’s Hell*.
I hate coffee to begin with. One of the ways I can think of making it even LESS attractive to me is to have it pooped out of a weasel relative.

  • with John Aston playing a very unconvincing hippie (“It’s a Bummer!”) Surely somebody’s idea of Hell.

You could probably make your own for a lot cheaper.

Go full tilt though… instead of a boring ol’ regular coffee filter, use toilet paper.

The Philippines is starting to get in on the civet coffee action. Their version is called “coffee alamid”, digested by the Philippine civet Paradoxorus philippinensis. My father sent me a jar of beans that I have yet to brew.

I love coffee, and have never had a chance to try Kopi Luwak. I have asked myself if I would avail myself of the opportunity should it ever arise (I ain’t gonna BUY it at that price!).

I honestly don’t know…

From their site:

They have just got to be dying with laughter inside when they solemnly sell you a pound of something for $80 that looks like it came out of a litter box.

I’m just happy it was a gift…let’s leave it at that!

It’s the phrase “For the DIY fan” that’s going to haunt my dreams.

Ivylad and I are coffee snobs (we take our French Press with us on vacation because we cannot stand the in-room drip coffee) and I would love to try a cup of this.

I bought a small packet for my brother last Christmas and got to try a cup, and I thought it was great! Absolutely no bitter aftertaste.

Going purely by taste, it is not worth the price, but you are really paying for rarity and novelty value.

I wonder how it would taste if used to make espresso? Assuming proper roasting and preparation, of course.

You have to squeeze the weasel pretty hard to get that fine a grind.
