…and it’s not horrible!
I’m a long-time Coke drinker. I love the stuff. I can’t stomach Diet Coke, but cutting back on Coke Classic certainly wouldn’t hurt anything other than my taste buds. I just sampled C2 from a 20 ounce bottle. Here are some facts before my opinions:
Serving Size: 8 fl oz/240 ml
Servings 2.5
Calories 45/serving
Fat: 0g
Sodium: 30mg
Total Carb: 12g
Sugars: 12g
Ingredients: Carbonated water, high fructose corn syrup and/or sucrose, caramel color, phosphoric acid, natural flavors, potassium benzoate, potassium citrate, caffeine, aspartame, acesulfame potassium, sucralose. Phenylketonurics: contains phenylalanine.
Compared to Coke Classic:
Serving Size: 8 fl oz/240 ml
Servings 2.5
Calories 100/serving
Fat: 0g
Sodium: 35mg
Total Carb: 27g
Sugars: 27g
Ingredients: Carbonated water, high fructose corn syrup and/or sucrose, caramel color, phosphoric acid, natural flavors, caffeine.
I’ve highlighted C2’s extra ingredients – it looks a lot less “pure” than regular Coke, but then most diet drinks seem to have a lot of -ates and -ines and -ames in them. The bolding on phenylketonurics is on the label… I guess it’s a health risk for some people or something. Anybody know the specifics?
Anyway, here are my impressions:
- It’s less fizzy than Coke Classic in the same way that Diet Coke seems less fizzy.
- It’s sweeter than Coke Classic. That’s the aspartame effect, I’m sure, but it’s nowhere near as strong as Diet Coke.
- It has virtually no aftertaste for me.
All and all, not a bad effort for a semi-diet drink, but I can live without the extra ingredients. Coca Cola Classic seems pretty basic and clean as far as soft drinks go.
So what are your impressions of this new beverage from Coke?
