Last September we had a fire that burned us out of our apartment. What I probably haven’t mentioned before now is that we moved back to that same apartment in June. We really like it here, had great neighbors and the apartment is very large. To give you an idea, we have three boys between 8 and 13, and unless they’re in front of us you might not know they’re in the house.
About 15 minutes ago, I smelled smoke, strongly. It was coming from the bathroom, just like the last time. Except there was no smoke, the last itme it was pouring from beneath the boys tub. . I left the aprtment carrying my extinguisher. I checked the Laundryroom and the Garage, nothing. Yet I could smell smoke clear as day. Meanwhile my wife is freaking out and looking for hot spots. I was standing in front of the building trying to figure it out, when I noticed that the lights were flashing on a car down the street. The car’s alarm had burned out. :smack:
Stuffy, I feel for you. I spent four years working and living in a mobile steam plant. Because of that experience I got so that I have to know the source of any odd scent I smell, or I’ll go absolutely bats**t nuts. (Those of you Dopers who may think I’m already there can keep quiet. ) Because of this need on my part I’ve caught about 18 teens sneaking smokes around the corner of my apartment building, one stalled bus, and a caterpillar that walked under a shard of glass at the exact wrong time of day. :smack:
On the other hand, perhaps you can take some comfort in knowing you’ll not have to rely on the smoke detectors at night anymore?
Twenty something years ago I was in an apartment that was on fire. I still am the first in a group to smell smoke. The anxiety has lessened over the years
Moi and I had a fire this winter, as some of you may know. We’re also back in the same apartment. While I’m not as anxious as Stuffy, I’m really aware of emergency vehicles in my neighborhood. Like, for example, the night the building behind us caught fire.
